I certainly hope either Microsoft and or Nvidia figure this crap out.

I'll start out by saying normally my system runs great and in the past I have rarely, if ever had problems
with Nvidia drivers. And I try almost all of them, hotfix, beta, and the whql Game Ready Release versions.

Gaming performance in World of Warcraft (yea I know its old and whatnot, but its what I enjoy playing)
has been tanked ever since I installed the FCU update. With V-sync enabled the game is a stuttering mess
on any of the recent driver releases. Constantly bouncing back and forth between 30fps and 60fps.
Disable V-sync and it will run at well over 150fps, dropping down into the low 100's in more intense areas.
But I cant stand the screen tearing or listening to my video card fan run wide open for no good reason.
In desperation (and an afternoon of boredom) I started going back in driver revisions until I found a set
that would actually run the game like it used to, maintaining a solid 60fps with no stuttering mess..

Made it all the way back to version 382.53 and then blocked WU from doing driver updates with wushowhide.

Anyway that's the end of my little rant. Figured I would post up my findings in case it may help someone else.

    peace

I don't play WoW, but usually a stutter like this (where the frame rate bounces up and down between intervals) is caused by either double buffered Vsync or a "starved" memory chip. I'm curious why driver 382.53 fixed it for you, if this issue is caused by either of those. WoW supports triple buffering from the ingame menu so definitely enable it when you play the game with Vsync on in fullscreen. Playing the game in windowed mode should also fix this because Windows is allocating the resources instead of the game taking full control, although at a small performance hit Vs fullscreen.

I forgot to mention that I run a dual monitor set up, and always play WOW in borderless windowed mode.
In the past I have steered clear of running triple buffering with V-Sync enabled as it seems to add lag.
But I am open to trying anything that makes the game play and look smoother so I will try it again.

That being said I have no idea why this particular driver seems to have solved this. I'm just glad it does.

    peace
    wanna.

I think that 'game fixes' should be withheld until a major software update is ready. All these so called upgrades have a bad effect from what I can see above

After installing the update to version 1709, the 3DTV PlayI NVIDIA stopped working at a resolution of 1080p 23 Hz, only 720-60 Hz. What worked for 3 years, Microsoft took down one instant.
Reinstalling the driver did not help. The rollback to the recovery point AT ALL resulted in the system's loss of security with the inability to remove / reinstall the driver for my NVIDIA 880m. I'm seeing this for the first time. Version 1709 is raw, written for unknown animals with incomprehensible requests. Intranesses of ordinary users are not taken into account.
I salute you Sir your rant is much better then my 100 lines post on MS forum on same topic
i have rolled back to 1703 and will stay there until MS get their S... together
