Windows Update just pushed a 431.70 version on my Release Preview setup that actually installed on my old GTX 970.
Pretty sure that the previous release/s of this driver set would only support the GTX 10xx series and newer video cards.
It got pushed to my old GT 640. But latest drivers have been supporting that all along.

431.70 is the Studio Driver (STD? ). So WU gave you STD and not GRD? I wonder how Microsoft will figure out what type of driver will be installed. Through telemetry maybe.

I downloaded 431.70 and it's NSD. According to release notes, it's not for anything earlier than the GTX 10 series, though. I tried and it wouldn't install on a system with a GTX 750 Ti. It installed easily for a GTX 1050. I have no idea what MS did to make it install on systems with older cards. Or why.

431.70 is just a regular old nvidia driver. The only thing that was done to make the one from MS install
was to add all of the missing card device ID's into the ListDevices.txt and the nv_dispi.inf install files.

The same way you can mod them to install quadro drivers on gtx cards. Driver Mod Guide

On my notebook GTX 1050Ti, if I open Nvidia experience and press "check for update" didn't show me the 431.70 driver and shows me only the 431.60.
Downloaded manually the 431.70 driver and installed BUT if I open again Nvidia experience it shows me that it want to install again the 431.60 driver.

431.70 is a Studio Driver meant for 3D Creative work(Photoshop etc) not for gaming 431.60 is the current Game Ready Driver.

FYI: If you click those three vertical dots next to "check for updates" in Geforce Experience, you can choose if you want to prioritize Studio drivers (STDs ) or Game drivers (GRDs)

If you are a gamer who prioritizes day of launch support for the latest games, patches, and DLCs, choose Game Ready Drivers.

If you are a content creator who prioritizes stability and quality for creative workflows including video editing, animation, photography, graphic design, and livestreaming, choose Creator Ready Drivers.

If you are both a gamer and creator, choose Game Ready Drivers.

I've just got Reinstall Driver. I guess mine doesn't support the Studio Drivers.
