I downloaded it from Nvidia and installed it as usual with no issues.

It was reported earlier today that Nvidia only had a partial download of the driver on some servers but it was being rectified. If your download was 3xx MB then it is a partial download. It should be 5xx MB.

From Geforce.com: CDN problem, only about 1/2 the DL was propagated at launch to some servers, everyone needs to wait for the cache to be cleared and reupped. 356MB WILL NOT WORK.

I think they had a problem with their latest Driver from the first time it came out. As you can see in Post # 1667 from the referenced link you provided, I was not the only one with those error messages. Other users (members in the forum) also had them.

Like I said, I am going to try again with the executable file to see if it would install this time around, but that's going to be for tomorrow, as it is getting too late. It is already 2:05 AM where I am living.

I just figured the same thing probably happened again.

Nvidia got a repro of the NVIDIA Container usage bug yesterday so maybe we'll see a hotfix driver soon. I'm still curious as to what's causing it. It's one of those issue that keeps popping up every year (regression?). I installed the driver through GeForce Experience -- and everything that is included -- and it looks to run OK for now, knock on wood*. I even have fast startup enabled.

That would explain why the executable file (downloaded driver) cannot be installed anymore. It will give an error when one tries. One has to use GeForce experience in order to be able to install it. Consequently, it is basically impossible to use DDU to strip the installed driver of the unnecessary items, since in the process of using this third-party app, one needs to use the executable to reinstall the driver.

I know for a fact that the executable file worked for the previous version.
I used GFE on machine "B" to install. Snagged the installer .exe from Program Data and used it on machine "A" to manually install after I had done a DDU. All fine.

Sounds real good. Why didn't I think of that? Thanks a lot for the tip. I will give it a try.
