The main thing is disconnet from the net, like Doogie posted.
I always follow instructions step by step(they're included), and and never have a problem , like when I test one of Kari's tutorials for him.
It must be my Army training, and having to do a PMCS(Preventive Maintenance And Services) on the sections vehicle every day

    Requirement:
-Windows XP up to Windows 10 Creator update 1803 (anything higher is at your own risk)
    -NVIDIA, AMD, Intel GPUs
-Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 or higher
    Recommended usage:
-You MUST disconnect your internet or completely block Windows Update when running DDU until you have re-installed your new drivers.
-DDU should be used when having a problem uninstalling / installing a driver or when switching GPU brand.
-DDU should not be used every time you install a new driver unless you know what you are doing.
-The tool can be used in Normal mode but for absolute stability when using DDU, Safemode is always the best.
-If you are using DDU in normal mode, Clean, reboot, clean again, reboot.
-Make a backup or a system restore (but it should normally be pretty safe).
-It is best to exclude the DDU folder completely from any security software to avoid issues.
-If you encounter issues, read the "Issues and solutions.txt"
    For a guide , check : DDU Guide / Tutorial | Wagnardsoft

If you use DDU there is no need to disconnect. Everything is done is safe mode except the installation.

It's the installation part that's letting Windows install the driver at reboot, in his case, anyhow.

    DDU stops that from happening.

My understanding of DDU, when run in safe mode, is that it sets a flag to prohibit Windows from updating the driver. That is supposed to give you time to install the current NVidia one. @OldMike65 or @Josey Wales have more experience with it than I do. Maybe they can confirm/deny my .01% knowledge of it!
Does not work. Windows 10 automatic driver update is so annoying it even had the nerve to update the older driver while I was installing the new one. I found disabling your ethernet and wifi adapter will disconnect you online so I do that in safe mode first when removing the older driver using DDU reboot into normal mode to install the new driver while offline then after everything is installed re-enable my ethernet and wifi adapters.

It works just fine for me , Windows has never installed any drivers. I have used DDU since it first came out. If you use DDU the Dev recommends that it be used in safe mode.

Turn Off Device Driver Automatic Installation is now an option in DDU that must be selected in DDU settings.

Go to Options and then Advanced Options to select that and also to enable the ability to boot into safe mode.

Yes Josey I realise that is how DDU should work, but at the time I had that problem DDU wasn't working as it should and Wagnard said that it wasn't disabling driver updates from Microsoft and he was working on a fix. We both agreed that disconnecting from the internet solved the problem until he fixed it. It really depends on what version of DDU the OP is running or has the bug reared its ugly head again.
