    AMD 16.6.1 Hotfix Driver Problems

I updated to the latest 16.6.1 Hotfix driver and had several Event ID 16388 ATI EEU Client Events at boot. It also took a few more seconds for the login screen to appear and Photoshop decided to disable use of the GPU. I note the last Hotfix is not WHQL certified.

I've gone back to the previous WHQL driver version 16.1 I was using and now have no problems.

What's the latest WHQL AMD driver and where do you find the previous WHQL driver versions? What's the best latest "bug free" driver to use.

The driver supplied by Windows Update - there's no question about it being the best driver. MS does extensive testing on drivers before putting them into Windows Update.

The only reason to go to a vendor's site for a driver is for a specific fix in a driver. Even then, the newer driver might cause BSODs or other issues.

Getting the latest and greatest is not always so great - the decision to over-ride drivers that Windows Update provides should be weighed carefully. It wasn't always the case, but has been for a while
Vista started the trend, Win7 improved on it, Win8 nearly perfected it and Win10 is really really really good at giving you the best drivers for Win10

Thanks. I'm going to keep using v16.1 which is the last WHQL update from AMD's web site, then let Windows 10 update the driver if it wants to. Most of AMD's current drivers are non-WHQL which doesn't inspire confidence!
