    Display gone dark

My Lenovo Z500 updated to W10 and the display is now dark and hardly readable. If you press the up/down keys for display the little control pops up on the screen - the bar moves up and down but the screen remains dark and does not vary. In device manager there are two drivers - Intel HD Graphics 4000 and Nvidia GE Force GT635M. I have removed/uninstalled both and reinstalled from downloads from the Intel and Nvidia sites direct, rebooted and nothing changed.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Mike

In action centre is there a display setting which may or may not override the buttons? Mine does. On mine I can set the brightness to 0 if I should wish as the screen has a backlight which is seperate from the brightness setting.

Interesting - I didn't know about "action centre" but in there I found "Display" settings which are set to maximum brightness, so it's not that sadly. I didn't see a "back light" setting anywhere - which section is it in? Maybe it's not in mine but I'll take a look.
    thanks

On my laptop it's a button which turns off/on the screen back light. If your device isn't a laptop then this'll not apply to your problem.
Do you have a different screen - say a TV with PC connectors - which you can check the device with to rule out a monitor problem?

OK so problem fixed but by using the F12/reboot trick in the following link - very odd but it worked.
