Like I already said, tried the Crimson and about half dozen legacy drivers, also those originally shipped with the machine, same issue with every driver. No backlight or simply crashes completely, either or. Always the same with any driver, and no effect with any brightness settings.

For instance using keyboard shortcuts for brightness, it shows the adjustment on screen, but at 100% there is no backlight and any lower than 100% it goes completely black. Same deal via control panel or catalyst panel or editing registry values for brightness, but usually it also crashes within minutes of using any of the drivers legacy or whql or crimson.

Also reinstalled w10 from scratch 3 times between trying different drivers. After enabling disabling the display card and trying a few different drivers it starts giving an error 17x something 'no compatible display cards installed' and didn't allow removal of drivers and/or device gets grayed out in devmag.

Nothing helped but reinstalling w7 and using the last w7 only driver 8.xxxx.

If I could find what was the 1st driver it installed a year back that'd likely work OK but I'm through with fighting this.

If anything, it again reminds me never to buy anything with AMD technology, ever again. I've probably built and used around 100 systems over the years and it's always AMD that causes terminal issues and weird driver problems. Currently two of my 9 machines are AMD and both require tweaks to work so so it won't work at all in w10.

Could this driver of Windows 7 work at Windows 10? If you have a spare disk you could try. If it doesn't then stick with Windows 7, they are very good and not obsolete yet.

Thanks, but have the original drivers for w7 and downloaded other w7 specific ones too...no. Same deal.

But, yeah, sticking with w7 then. No biggie in the end, unless some day it updates to w10 without me noticing and messes things up.

I don't think so because now upgrade to 10 is not free (unless you had upgraded at least once before 29th July 2016). You would see some messages to upgrade, but not done automatically. Don't forget that in 7 you can block certain updates or turn off automatic updates and do them manually.
