And the 1660 super is faster than the 1660 plain...

So... if I were you... I'd save a bit or sell something, and get this card...
EVGA 1660 Super <------- Cheapest 1660 I could find, of any type... (Ti, Super, plain).

And EVGA is the cream of the crop.
Company has quit making vid cards, but will support all the vid cards they made.

What about this one, it's a TI and $35 cheaper. Or is the TI a lesser card? https://www.amazon.com/MSI-GeForce-1...08LHC5B2K&th=1

    That's also a 1660 Super and it's 'refurbished".

I need to know if i go new is there anything in the range i mentioned that is both a better performer then the GTX970 AND work with my sys specs.
That is why i said those cards. You cannot go wrong with any of those in a system that old. Anything newer than those and you are taking a substantial deficit so it means you need to understand more what is happening and how to maximize the computer more. You lose features like BAR and overall its a bad idea to say put an RTX card in.

All these cards are suitable for your computer. Just pick one.

if new then 1660 will be ok. You could put a 2080 or higher but its not as optimal. 980 or 1080 if you can get them cheap used. Will also get you a lot of games
You could also go backwards too so like GTX 780 or R9. Even cards like HD7xxx series would still be good on a computer like that even though they are quite old, it would just mean you won't be able to play any new games that are bleeding edge but you would still be able to play quite a few that are less demanding.

Ok, i'm gonna bite the bullet and starve for a week and get that. It's shorter then the current card so no issues with fitment. By the way, what DX version does this support?

    DirectX 12.

Whenever you want to see a video card's specs, just Google the make and model of the card.
In this case, that would be... EVGA 06G-P4-1068-KR

EVGA - Product Specs - EVGA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER SC ULTRA GAMING, 06G-P4-1068-KR, 6GB GDDR6, Dual Fan, Metal Backplate

    Yep.

Those GTX 970's were really good cards. Not easy to get equal or better on a low budget.

Gigabyte rtx 3050 oc (oc means overclocked) $164.99.
According to the tomshardware graph I indicated it is above the 1660 simple, ti and super, in resolution 1080p medium setting, 1080p ultra setting, 1440p ultra.
