OpenCL Unavailable and Graphics Processor Not Found

This new problem starts when I open Adobe Photoshop. I get a message saying "OpenCL Unavailable" and "Graphics Processor Incompatible...Driver Update Recommended".

My graphics card is AMD Radeon RX560. I did an update from AMD's site on the software and drivers. I'm on 31.0.21912.14 Adrenaline 24.3.1 dated Feb. 20 2024 which is the latest version. But in Photoshop it says GPU Detected: Windows Basic Renderer Driver unknown. So it is only using the basic windows driver, not what I have installed.

I also went to the MS store and downloaded OpenGL and OpenCL Compatibility Pack and installed. Before this, Photoshop was giving me the error of both Open CL and Open GL being unavailable but now it is just OpenCL that doesn't work and along with this its not using my graphics processor. Also, when I look under Device Manager at my Display Adapter there's an error on that, it says it is not working properly because Windows can't load the drivers for it. The drivers are updated so how do I fix this?

    I'm on Windows 10 22H2.

I have an update to this. Something is causing it to become disabled.

I downloaded DDU display driver uninstaller and ran it in safe mode to completely uninstall any or all display drivers. Then I re-installed the latest AMD driver pkg that I did in my original post. Everything was working, no errors. Well today I've got the same errors. I tried to open the AMD Adrenaline graphics application and it won't open. The drivers are disabled and its running the basic windows graphics again. I cannot re-enable it, I would have to re-install. What's causing this?

There's a wealth of experience and knowledge in this forum, and a solution/answer might well be forthcoming

But you might hedge your bets and also ask the question in an Adobe forum, as well. Could save some time.

Remove that OpenCL pack and disable open CL in the Photoshop settings. Photoshop does state GPU less than 7 years old are only supported not sure if this is meant as they only support gpu within the age or it means they actually lock out gpu older than that.
Usually a statement like that means that if hardware does not work then the company will not do anything to get it working in future updates, but older cards should still work. That Rx is basically 7 years old roughly though so it could the case.

I would remove that pack and do a restart.

Read here if you have not it describes quite a bit of troubleshooting steps.

If you fail to get it working you might have to use an older version if you can get it reliably.

I removed the compatibility pack, turned off OpenCL, restart and it is still working with no error. I don't know why that started happening. Its like something was disabling my graphic card. I'll have to watch it.

It's probably being caused by drivers included in Windows Update.
This happens a lot, and usually corrupts the vid card drivers...

    1. Do this first... (many times drivers included in WU will corrupt already installed drivers)
Enable or Disable Driver Updates in Windows Update in Windows 10

    2. Then run DDU like so...
    DDU Instructions - AMD
    1. Get this program, here: Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) | Wagnardsoft ...get the latest version, and save it to your desktop.
    2. Get your vid card driver here, use the Manual Search: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download ...save this to your desktop.
    Unhook the internet completely.
    3. Reboot into Safe Mode and run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) choose the "Highly Recommend Option", and just do what it tells you.
    4. After it's done, reboot to normal mode, then just double click the AMD driver to install. If it want's to reboot, let it.
    Rehook the internet.

Only set these settings in DDU. Leave the other settings alone...

Most likely because the newest update for Photoshop wants a certain revision for OpenCL and your GPU will only go up to a certain revision but will probably be below the requirement. OpenCl won't be a big deal to miss its OpenGL that will lock you out of the program completely if you do not meet the req.

Not sure it does seem strange, but that OpenCL pack will defer gpu calls to the cpu in a software mode for OpenCL so this may of been an issue that is why i mentioned to remove it because your GPU should be capable to do photoshop. I would be looking at what version of OpenCL your gpu can do and then see what photoshop states it is using.

You can download app from here and it will give you a run down of the cards capabilities.

I did not update Photoshop. The weird thing is, I got the Photoshop error before I updated my GPU driver. That was what made me update it. I saw the error, and then looked at my AMD software to check for update and found one. So I thought just updating that would take care of it but it didn't. Still no errors with the up to date GPU driver. I don't know what I did to solve it. I checked "enable" for the GPU in device manager, but like I said I got the error before updating to the new version of AMD.
