    Resolution

    Hello,
I am using a Toshiba satellite C660D, with VGA connection to a TV. The maximum resolution I can get is 1280 x768 when VGA is connected. However this leaves a black bar down either side of screen on both PC and TV- is there any way I can increase resolution to fill screen.
My computer uses AMD Radeon HD 6310 graphics card , with latest driver. I have tried several third party apps to increase resolution -all to no avail. While this does not affect the running of PC it would be nice to find a working solution.
    Thank You

You need to know the graphics specifications for the VGA output of your Laptop and the same for the TV VGA input.

The capabilities are specific to the Laptop, rather than the actual integrated graphics chipset.

You need to at least match the aspect ratio of the external screen.

    In Windows 10 Settings > System > Display > Select the 2nd screen > Display resolution >
change to something available in the drop down box. The (Recommended) should be the native resolution of the TVs display panel.

It does depend on what the laptops capabilities are and TV settings, but choose the correct Aspect Ratio which should ensure no black bars down the sides.

1280/768= 15/9 but tvs are usually 16/9 (or higher) these days. You cannot change fundamental maxium output resolution but tv may have ability to stretch picture horizontally but resulting picture may be a bit off (slightly shorter fatter objects).

You may find a slightly resolution that is closer to 16:9 and the tv can probably fill space. You would get right aspect ratio but a slightly fuzzier picture.

Frankly I would use max res and just ignore vertical bars.

    Hi cereberus,
Was able to stretch picture horizontally on TV-it was not much out anyway and I found I could separate PC and TV screen resolution using AMD Catalyst Control Center. Both PC and TV now fill screen. Thanks for the advice.

    Thats it,
Youve got to extend the desktop on the second screen instead of mirroring. Mirroring will give you the same resolution from both screens, and the TV will show the same maximum resoloution as the laptop.
    Extend and seperate resolutions.
