Pavilion dm4t-1200 no HDMI output to external monitor, VGA only works

I even upgraded this laptop to windows 10 pro hoping it might fix HDMI port, but nothing. I only can connect using the VGA port to a projector or a monitor. This is the second HP laptop that is like this that the school has. AFAIK, maybe none of these laptops have a working HDMI output. Manual states can connect using port to an HDMI device such as projector.

    any ideas?

This laptop has some odd 'switchable graphics' and shows an Intel HD graphics and an AMD 6300m hd graphics, which I don't understand why 2 graphics chips in one laptop. Could AMD software be screwing up the HDMI output?

device manager shows both display adapters as functional

I am thinking only way is buy a VGA to HDMI amazon adapter to use this with a projector

According to the laptop's user manual:

To connect a video or audio device to the HDMI port:
    1. Connect one end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI port on the computer.
    2. Connect the other end of the cable to the video device, according to the device manufacturer's instructions.
    3. Press the F4 action key on the computer to switch the image between the display devices connected to the computer.

A computer can get by on its integrated graphics. However, some laptops also have discrete graphics. The discrete graphics is used for more intensive needs such as playing games. Normally the computer only uses the integrated graphics to save power. It only switches to the discrete graphics when it is needed.

Two of my laptops have both integrated and discrete graphics. Both have AMD CPUs with integrated AMD Radeon graphics. One also has discrete AMD graphics while the other has discrete Nvidia graphics.

Go to the Notification Centre far right of Task Bar > select Project from the quick functions and a Menu of 4 options should come up.
This is the same that should come up by using the F4 function key.

If there is not the Project option, then add it by right clicking the area(Edit).

Also look in Settings > System > Display.
You should have 2 displays indicated.

Check your HDMI cables by substitution, and plugs and sockets with a visual inspection.

Thanks, but I did all that and it never detects a display plugged into the hdmi port.

Projection works fine on the vga port all those buttons make it work fine
Plugging into HDMI port , nothing happens at all.

Device manager shows no flagged errors. Should the port appear somewhere in the device list?

I got the vga to hdmi device from Amazon, and it works great. Of course picture is only VGA but it is ok to watch.
It is the only solution to work so far.

    Sorry! Something went wrong!

??sorry something went wrong, amazon link....but it works

It is plug and play. Not too expensive like some others and has better reviews than some. Audio and video do sync good. One of these things advertises up to a one second audio delay, imagine...
