AMD RX 6500XT driver randomly not loading/disabled at startup/running

    WIN 1022H2(Build 19045.3208
This has been going on for awhile now. The AMD RX 6500 XT GPU driver will randomly not install during start-up; or even while just viewing(when this happens the screen goes black)... I don't have to been running My MSFS 2020 for this to occur. The screen will go black, then I will have to restart computer. Once restarted the AMD driver may or may not be active. If not active then the screen is driven by the Windows Basic driver with minimal resolution.
The only way to get it to load is to go to device manager(which shows device not working Code31)..1.select enable, then 2, select disable, then 3. Select enable again. Once #3 is done the screen goes black for a few seconds then then screen visual returns with the AMD driver operating with 1920x1080 resolution again.
There are times when it works fine for a couple days then it occurs again.

What many people would recommend is to grab Display Driver Uninstaller. Uninstall the amd software with DDU. Restart Windows so it can finish any uninstall tasks, give it a few minutes (3 at the least).. Restart again if it finishes things up.

Download the latest amd software and do a clean install that way. See where that gets you.

    vgchat,
Thanks for the recommendation..Will give it a try..Understand this is done in Safe Mode? With no internet connection during the process?
    Thx

That probably would be the best way to do it, at least for the uninstalling.

    Well..started doing the same issue..
I have an old NVIDIA GPU that i will install and see if this issue goes away, if it does then it’s my AMD GPU, if not then it’s probably the MB!!

Before you start blaming hardware, have you tried a factory reset of windows 10? If that doesn't help, maybe undervolting it to put less stress on it might do the trick. If both of those options fail, I'd say consider sending it to a local repair shop/person to let them analyze it to fix it.

    2nd opinion, from chatgpt:

It seems like you're experiencing a recurring issue with your AMD RX 6500 XT GPU driver installation and functionality. Driver-related problems can be quite frustrating, but there are steps you can take to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue. Here's a guide to help you:

Update Graphics Drivers: Ensure you have the latest drivers for your AMD RX 6500 XT GPU. You can download the latest drivers directly from the AMD website. Uninstall the current drivers first and then install the new ones.

    Clean Installation of Drivers:

Use a tool like Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to completely remove any existing GPU drivers. This ensures a clean slate for installation.
Restart your computer and then install the latest AMD drivers you downloaded.
    Windows Update:

Make sure your Windows operating system is up-to-date. Sometimes, compatibility issues can arise if your OS is outdated.
    Check for Hardware Issues:

Ensure that the GPU is properly seated in its slot and power connectors are secure.
Monitor temperatures to see if overheating could be causing the black screen issue. Clean the GPU and system of dust if needed.
    Check for System Stability:

Test the stability of your system using benchmarking tools like FurMark or Heaven Benchmark. This could help identify if the issue is related to the GPU's performance under load.
    Check for Software Conflicts:

Disable or uninstall any third-party applications or software that might be conflicting with the GPU driver.
Perform a clean boot to start Windows with a minimal set of startup programs and services. This can help identify if third-party software is causing the issue.
System File Checker (SFC) and Check Disk (CHKDSK):

Run these built-in Windows utilities to check and repair any corrupted system files or disk errors.
    Contact AMD Support:

If the issue persists, it's a good idea to reach out to AMD's customer support. They might be aware of any known issues with the specific GPU model and provide you with more targeted solutions.
    Consider Hardware Replacement:

If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it's possible that there might be a hardware problem with your GPU. In such cases, you might need to consider a replacement or contact the manufacturer for warranty support.

    @HogWild99

    First... re-seat your RAM

Then go here and do the registry tweak, to block Windows Updates including driver updates...

How to turn off driver updates in Windows Update in Windows 10

    Then use DDU as follows...

    DDU Instructions - AMD
    1. Get this program, here: Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) | Wagnardsoft ...get the latest version, and save it to your desktop.
    2. Get your vid card driver here, use the Manual Search: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download ...save this to your desktop.
    Unhook the internet completely.
    3. Reboot into Safe Mode and run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) choose the "Highly Recommend Option", and just do what it tells you.
    4. After it's done, reboot to normal mode, then just double click the AMD driver to install. If it want's to reboot, let it.
    Rehook the internet.

If this still doesn't fix things, repeat the DDU steps with an older driver. The 6500XT came out in January 2022.
Look for a driver about 12-16 months old.

    Thanks everyone,
I have actually done all the above except the benchmarking tools and contacting AMD…
SFC did find and replace corrupt files…
    Will benchmark..
Then i will install an old NVIDIA GPU to see if this issue continues/follows …
    Will keep you all updated
Thanks again for all your suggestions

Well I did or attempted a FurMark stress test ..with-in 2-3 secs the screen went black, computer was still running. So, I ended up rebooting and screen came back normally. GPU has never been overclocked. So could it be a bad GPU and/or PSU issue? I have a EVGA 600 BR psu.

Well now I can't run MSFS 2020 for very long. Screen goes black but I can hear game is running in the background. I did Run the AMD Adrenalin software to see what was going on with the GPU temp prior to starting the game. Starts off at 37 degrees C then when I get started with MSFS 2020 all of a sudden the GPU temp will spike to around 65 degrees C or more, and that's when the screen goes black. I even had the fans all running 100%.
So, it seems the GPU is at fault here. But could it still be the PSU? Any suggestions? I am leaning towards a GPU going/gone bad.
