Problem connecting TV to HDMI input

I recently bought a used Dell 9010 Small Form Factor computer to use as internet/multimedia input for my TV. I have previously tested the TV and HDMI cable by connecting a Dell Vostro laptop (with Intel UHD graphics) and the HDMI cable/TV accepts the input without problem (except I have to make sure the HDMI cable is very securely inserted into the laptop's port).

The Dell 9010 multimedia machine came with an AMD R5 340 video card which has DVI and Displayport 1.2 output. It does not come with native HDMI output so I have a Displayport/HDMI converter. When I try hanging a LG monitor off the end of the converted Displayport/HDMI it works fine. When I hang the TV off the end the TV says it is getting no signal.

Both the laptop and the Multimedia machine are running at 1920x1080 resolution. Does anybody know if there is some power draw from a TV that would be overloading my multimedia machine (but not the laptop)? Any other reason the TV and HDMI cable would work on one set of inputs and not the other?

My suspicion is that the Displayport/HDMI adapter creates enough signal loss or interference to cause this problem. I had planned to get a modern GeForce card with native HDMI output but I was trying the existing configuration to see if perhaps the signal strength/quality was sufficient (and save $100).

    Anybody have any thoughts?

    Thanks
    dbish

Yes. I had previously run a HDMI cable through the wall to the table where I have DVD, etc. I plug the HMDI cable into the laptop and it works fine. I plug the HDMI cable into the Multimedia computer and get nothing.

Do you or anybody have any experience with Displayport/HDMI converters? I am thinking there is signal loss sufficient to cause the TV to not take the input. I have no idea the quality of the Displayport/HDMI converter - I would assume it is the cheapest one made (came with the computer). Is there a quality difference in such devices?

Well, I guess the problem is solved. I bought a modern ASUS/NVIDIA GT1030 video card with native HDMI output and plugged in the tv. All is good. So, the problem was either the loss of signal using a displayport/HDMI converter or some mysterious problem. Moving on and closing this topic.
