"Out of Range"
Three days ago while in the middle of playing Rimworld my computer started to make error noises and the monitor would flicker. This was all that happened, the game continued to respond properly and nothing else seemed wrong.
Yesterday my machine was working fine until suddenly the monitor flickered and then showed "out of range". I rebooted and it showed the bios and load screens but once it went to the login screen it again switched to "out of range".
I tired starting in safe mode and changing the display settings to the lowest resolution. On restarting it was still "out of range". I then tried using safe mode to delete the display driver and restart. This fixed things for a bit, but while I was looking for the drivers for me GeForce it flickered and went back to "out of range".
Since that I have continued to wrestle with the display, getting it back to a point where I can use it only for it to suddenly go out of range.
I've run virus scans and spyware scans but because the display goes out of range I can't see what happens with those, so I don't know if it's a virus or something.
Does anyone know what might be happening? Do I need a new graphics card? A new monitor? Both are 14 years old so I'm not discounting the fact it might be one or the other of those too.
