Will my hdmi wire be ok?
I have a tv. I am connecting my laptop to hdmi 4 on the tv and I am connecting a tv channel receiver to hdmi 2 on the tv. I regularly switch between hdmi 2 and hdmi 4 on the tv. I am duplicating the laptop screen on the tv.
Today I restarted the laptop while the tv was on hdmi 2. After that I switched the tv to hdmi 4. Normally when I switch the tv to hdmi 4 the laptop screen shows on the tv. This time it didn't happen and the tv stayed black. I unplugged the hdmi wire from the laptop and I plugged it back. The laptop screen showed on the tv.
I wasn't sure why the tv stayed black when I switched the tv to hdmi 4. After that I thought that maybe restarting the laptop while the tv was on hdmi 2 could have messed up something. I restarted the laptop again while the tv was on hdmi 2 and then I switched the tv to hdmi 4. The same thing happened again and the tv was black. This time I closed the laptop lid so the laptop went to sleep and then I opened the laptop lid and the laptop woke up and then the laptop screen showed on the tv.
In the end I figured it out. If I restart the laptop while the tv is on hdmi 2 then there is no active hdmi connection when windows starts so the laptop ignored the hdmi cable and that's why the tv stayed black when I switched to hdmi 4 and I have to restart the hdmi connection by either unplugging the wire and plugging it back on or putting the laptop to sleep and waking it up. Am I correct? Is that safe and it won't spoil the hdmi wire?
