vga monitor to hdmi comuter active bidirectional?

I purchased a VGA (monitor) to HDMI (laptop) adapter that results with the monitor message 'Input not supported'.

I'm now reading that what I should have (and don't know if I do since the adapter doesn't say) is a bidirectional active adapter.

Searching I'm finding bidirectional but not active also. The adapter is a Moread made in China. The website is not expecting customers--useless.

I'm fine purchasing another adapter but need to understand where I went wrong and what different must I specify??

Could you just tell us what monitor it is, little more simple that way instead of we have to guess all the time?

Sorry- I thought this to be a generic monitor question.

And the censorship try to prevent me for posting this link in a proper way....
    This should work.

From HDMI to VGA it is more complicated, there is some adapters but it is troublesome because VGA is analog while HDMI is a digital Audio/video interface.

I think you should go for the first one, DVI-D to HDMI.

Here it is, you need 24pins DVI.
BENFEI DVI to HDMI, Bidirectional DVI (DVI-D) to HDMI Male to Female Adapter with Gold-Plated Cord 2 Pack is good.

But be aware of the female and male pins!
Always choose cable instead of adapter if you are able to.
