    HDMI hijack

Hi. I use my laptop with a hdmi cable to my tv for some things but sometimes I just want the display only on my laptop. Whilst I'm able to do this there is an issue. If I have my laptop open with just the laptop screen on, if I turn on my tv the screen is hijacked turning off my laptop screen. Is there any way to avoid this? At the moment I have to stop whatever I'm doing on the tv and go to the channel I have the laptop on and set it back to display only on the laptop screen. Win 10 Home Version 10.0.19045 Build 19045

Thanks but that doesn't help. I have five setups that I use. Laptop only, TV Only, TV Hi definition, Laptop extended and dual monitor. I duplicate. I'm using a display manage called Monitor Profile Switcher. The issue I'm having is that even when I have it set to laptop only, turning on the TV (not on the laptop channel, just turning it on) hijacks the display and turns off the laptop display even if it is set to laptop only.

I'd start with the laptop manufacture's manual. There should be a combination keyboard command to enable/disable the external monitor or in this case a TV. And that should be a permanent setting via key press.

If you've already tried this method, then I can explore some other solutions.

    Edit-

Explore your TV settings. Perhaps that's where the problem lies.

Your laptop is not hijacking the HDMI, when you have it connected to the tv it will always go by what the OS display driver is set for. So if you do not want it to display on the tv, then start by looking at maybe only hooking it up to HDMI when needed and unhook when not.

Every time you finish using your TV as an external monitor, you have to tell the laptop to return to using only the laptop's display before disconnecting the TV.
Then it will stick with the laptop's screen even when you re-connect the TV.

It is easy to set up shortcuts to do your display switching if you want.

Whenever you get into a mess you can switch back to the laptop 'blind', see

The point of the pause between each step is merely that the functions are slow to respond and can miss some key presses if you are too quick with them.

    All the best,
