PC to Monitor -VGA or HDMI

    Hello,
For general work with the computer, watching and editing video, some picture programs, some music programs, office, mail,
    no gaming.
Which connection for todays new monitors is better, VGA or HDMI.
Searched the internet and could not find straight answers.
I would like to have your opinions about it.
    Answers will be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Motim

    Hi,
Short answer is HDMI which is a digital signal and newer technology; VGA is analog and older technology.

If your system supports HDMI I'd go with that. But, I see from your specs (Thx for filling them in) that you have a VGA card.

Planning on making a change if you have to?

I've never noticed any difference between VGA and HDMI at 1920x1080.
So I would not spend money replacing parts or equipment to get HDMI. You won't see a benefit.

But if no upgrade is needed to use HDMI, do so.

VGA is a legacy video connection, you can forget about it in 2022.

HDMI and DisplayPort are the currently useful video ports.

VGA involves D to A conversion, cable with analog video, and at the monitor an A to D converter.
With good quality video cable and good D to A and A to D conversion it is just as good, however there is obviously wasted conversion processes and potential cable issues more likely. Also on typical Graphics Cards the maximum resolution is lower.

The modern connections HDMI/DisplayPort are all digital and will support greater resolutions.

And HDMI generally provides both video & audio whereas a VGA connection would be just video.
I used to use VGA along with an audio cable connection but it's much more convenient using just my single HDMI cable.

Do you have one of these cards? If so, they both have HDMI/DVI-D/VGA connections.

Most current monitors support HDMI connections.

Note if you use HDMI and the monitor has built-in speakers then the sound will come out of them. I assume your desktop has external speakers. If so, then you will have to go into your audio settings and change the audio back to your external speakers.
