Yes. I have read elsewhere that some people are experiencing burnt power connectors.

And it might not go anywhere, watch the whole video, because the problem is user installation mostly.

I think that they need to make better connectors on a card that "may" draw that much power.
It's not like there's any "need" to make a possibly too thin connector. This isn't a 3/16" thick iPhone we're talking about.

The 4090 is plenty wide enough to have a herculean connector. A connector that would be "far less" susceptible to user error. I don't see any reason to "push the limits" on a connector for a card like this.

There's a reason they don't make wall plugs (for example), with tiny pins. Granted, wall plugs are rated to carry (at minimum), up to three or four times the wattage, that the 4090 could ever draw.

I think the manufacturers should opt for a happy medium sized power connector for cards like the 4090.
Something a lot more hefty, than they are currently using.
A connector that "definitely" clicks into place. There should be NO doubt that it's connected.

All users are not going to be electrical engineers, or even adequately competent.
That should be accounted for, with room to spare.

This is just the result of innovation though reference cards have a problem? this is nothing new and is the point of ref cards so the vendors can design around and fix flaws

reference cards are exactly that reference samples that are on the very edge of what is allowable/possible the third party vendors come out with better designs. Through testing and further innovation.

Granted we are in new grounds in terms of GPU dimensions being these big mammoth things atm like never before and i think the cable issue is an oversight but also the whole issue is sort of a misnomer as its on ref cards.

the guy who sued is an idiot. no one buys ref cards expecting top tier performance or reliability either i guess it goes to say understand what you are buying into.

From what I have heard discussed the wires themselves are more than enough to carry the current needed. The problem is that internally they solder wires to a thin metal plate. When the cable is flexed there is a potential to weaken the soldered connections. When current is passed though this compromised connection a lot of heat is generated.

The problem is caused because that the power cable runs out of the top of the card where it hits the side panel of the case. In order to put the side panel on people are probably bending the cable down to make room. This bend is causing the failure of wires soldered to the metal plate.

This is due to poor engineering design and product testing

The new 12VHPWR connector is a compact power connector that combines the capability of multiple older 6- and 8-pin connectors into one tiny plug. It was originally adopted with the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti Founders Edition and is now used in the GeForce RTX 4090 Founders Edition as well as custom versions of the RTX 4090 built by the likes of Asus, MSI, et cetera. The 12VHPWR connector will also be used in the impending GeForce RTX 4080 Founders Edition, slated to release on November 16.

The new ATX 3.0 power supplies supports the new 16-pin 12VHPWR power connector, enabling gamers and enthusiasts to pull 600W of power from a single cable.

If I were to buy a RTX 4080 or RTX 4090 GPU I would just buy a new power supply that supported ATX 3.0. That way I wouldn't need to deal with the convuluted and problematic adapter Nvidia came with.

The effort by Nvidia to save users money has cost them a lot of credibility and possibly a lot of money if they lose the class action suite.
