    Black display sometimes after waking?

Once in a while, when windows wake up, the monitor would turn on but shows a black screen.
This used to happen when I have one monitor. Now I have two monitor, it still happens, usually on the second monitor. I first thought it was a monitor problem, but now I think it's windows, because it happens on two different monitors.
The only work around I have found so far is to turn off the monitor and turn it back on. Software running on the second monitor would move to the first monitor and I would have to move them back to the second monitor.
I suspect unplugging the displayport cable and plugging it back in would also work but I haven't tried. I think windows needs to be told the monitor is no longer there, and then the monitor is there again, in order to trigger some sort of reset. The other monitor that had this problem was connected via HDMI, so cable type is not the problem.

If I go to customize display and swap the two display, the second monitor would blink (between different shades of black), but still remain black. Resetting the display (shift ctrl win B) does not fix it.

How can I diagnose this further next time it happens?

My graphics card is nvidia GTX 1080.

im assuming this waking from hybernation? or wake timer? hybernation is hard on a pc and ive seen it cause alot of issues. have you tried disabling all of this and reboot and see if the monitors still have same issue? also when a pc wakes up it pulls power fast im curious how well your power supply is . it kinda reminds me of fast boot missing start up processes. it could be the gpu not getting the power fast enough to acknowledge the one monitor. since noone else has responded im pointing at a power issue related to Gpu. loading up the ram for hybernatoin or sleep ive seen some odd issues. i would disable all this and let system up for 5-10 minutes and reboot a few times in same manner. and see if the issue still exists first.

it could be the display setting loosing order in sleep mode also.
