    Casting to an android box

I have a windows 10 laptop and I would like to connect it to my android TV box so that I can use my TV as an extra monitor.
I can cast from Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome and a few other places so Im sure its possible.
The TV is not a smart TV but has an android box connected to it.
Both devices - the laptop and the android box are on the same WiFi network.

What I would like to do is browse my entire computer on my TV screen as if it were connected via a HDMI cable - which my laptop has but sadly doesn't work anymore (I think the port is broken somehow)

    Thankyou

    You can try this:
How to display the image from the Windows 10 computer on the TV using the screen mirroring feature. | Sony AP

On my recently purchased Android TV (just a few months ago), it's Apps, then Screen Sharing. Then in Windows 11 I went to "Connect to a wireless display" and my Android TV showed up.

You can install apps on android devices that act as a chromecast receiver, and then cast from pc to android device.

In order to cast from Windows 10/11 to chromecast, I had to install a browser extension in Chrome:
Cast a Chrome tab on your TV - Computer - Chromecast Help

    @Nickynoo

That might be what you have to do. Find the app that enables Chromecast on the android box. Then use Google Chrome with the chromecast extension.

Edge and Chrome have had built in chromecasting ability for a couple of years ago afaik.

Yes, you are correct, about Edge at least - and I never knew that it was there! It seems really weird that they would bury desktop casting in the web browser. WWW content, I can understand, but the whole desktop?

I just installed Airscreen app on my android phone, and was able to cast a video from pc to android (worked well) but I had to disable adblocker on EDGE. Cost is not that cheap to avoid ads - about £12 per year.

In the end, OP could install Plex on pc and android device and use that for free. It all depends what Op wants to cast - for videos etc, Plex is great. If OP wants to mirror pc screen, then they would have to try out other apps.

Thanks for your help guys. @cereberus and @NavyLCDR - I want to mirror the screen, i.e.. use my tv as a monitor (its not a smart tv but made smart by connecting it to an android box), My idea is to browse files from the desktop, explorer and other apps on my laptop but looking at my tv screen. I would like it as if the laptop duplicated screen on the tv as if the two were connected via a HDMI cable. With that being said. is it possible to connect my tv (bearing in mind that its connected to an android box) as a wireless monitor. The laptop has Bluetooth and so does the android box, the laptop Bluetooth does pick up the box. but I cant figure out what to do from there. I go to the the project setting. choose duplicate and then connect to a wireless display. A connect side box pops up and it cant find my device (I think this is where the android box is blocking it somehow). Since it doesn't find my device I choose where is my device and a webpage opens about fixing Bluetooth connections. In the side box. if I choose find other types of devices the settings page for Bluetooth opens and I can see my android box but I don't know what to do. So I think it is possible but I don't know how to accomplish it.
    Its a LG tv
Its an Ematic AGT419 android box

I have figured it out, I used Edge browser (a few months ago I switched over from Chrome). In the Edge browser I go to settings>more tools>cast media to device, then I select my source (desktop) and then my device (my android box). Not sure how to choose these settings for source and device because I always needs to stop casting and then re-enable casting for it to work. Then I minimise Edge and I can see my desktop and browse my laptop. If I close Edge the casting stops, while it is casting there is a thin yellow border around the laptop screen.
But is there another way possible, would be interesting to know and would undoubtedly help others.
