Windows disconnects monitors when "turning off display" to save power

Windows is set up to turn off display after 10 minutes of inactivity.

I installed a new graphics card yesterday, and now when the monitors turn off, windows plays the sound of USB disconnected immediately followed by USB connected, when monitors goes to sleep.

When I move my mouse to wake the PC, it does the same thing again: USB discconnected, then USB connected sound, before turning on monitors.

The problem is that all windows are moved to the main monitor every time this happens, which is of course extremely annoying.

Why would Windows do this? It did not happen with my previous GPU, even though monitors and cables are the same (1 DVI and 1 HDMI)

Edit: It is the secondary monitor that disconnects. When I power it off with the button it does the same - Windows completely disconnects it. The monitor is connected with DVI, and like mentioned, it did not behave like this with the previous graphic card.

    Hi, @JamesTI,
    Welcome to TenForums.

For us to solve your problem, please post the details of winver.
    1. Click + R
    2. Type 'winver'

    This gives us important information.

Then, please ensure to update your PC specs using something like Speccy to get detailed information.

This makes it easier for us to solve the problem.

Until then, this is the only solution I can give you

Are you able to go into device manager find your USB port right click go to properties and check for power management options. Make sure that the computer is not allowed to disable these devices to conserve power? (Do for all Universal Serial Bus drivers and restart PC after this.

    Version 19043.1348.
Motherboard is and old ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 with Core i7 920
    GPU is Radeon R9 290

I disabled power saving for all USB devices in Device manager, but that didn't help.

The same thing happens when the computer resumes from sleep. I hear the USB connected sound, displays flashing (like when you change resolution), and all windows are moved around leaving a complete mess.

There's got to be something with the graphic card, since this didn't happen with the old GPU.
