    HP Envy gray screen

I have a 17inch HP Envy that gets a gray screen when started after sitting for a while. No problem if hooked into my tv via HDMI. Running Windows 10.

I have an Envy 17, haven't seen that issue on it but there can be some issues if the data ribbon becomes loose from the motherboard, sometimes just a bit. It can happen when having to disassemble the case for things like changing the memory modules or the drive or keyboard, anything that requires taking it apart. Also can happen when dropped or bumped hard, child stepping on it [had to do one of those in a local Chinese restaurant], sitting on it, etc.

    Thanks

Thank you for the reply. All connectors have been triple-checked, all ok. We even installed a new cable to the screen, thought maybe damaged from opening/closing. Today it took over 10 minutes for the screen to clear.

I have had this on my Toshiba Laptop since Oct 2018. Roughly like all your images.

Only occurring when powering on after a long Shutdown of approx 8-10 hours. It always clears in about 5 mins and thereafter works as it should.

I can change the point at which it appears by changing from Fast start-up to Normal start-up.
That indicates the problem is when the integrated graphics driver clicks in from the basic driver used for manufacturers logo, UEFI/BIOS screens etc. i.e. when Windows starts.

The Graphics are Intel HD 4600. Driver versions 4549, 4963, 5070, 5126 have all been tried, no change.

MS says that Shutdown is a combination of Sleep and Hibernation, however fiddling with sleep, re-creating the hibernation file etc has had no effect.

Nothing noted in Boot logs or in diagnostic data sent to MS.

I discount loose connectors as moving the lid or Laptop around has no effect. The effect is predictable during a power on.
