    Thank you so much Nigel for a most informative and educational reply. You and steve108 (thanks to you as well) have provided me the information to, hopefully, resolve this.

    p.s. - one last thing I plan to try first is to change the power plan setting from the current to and see if this happens, assuming that the plan's 'monitor off' trigger is the same as the command above. If so, I expect this anomaly to surface.

    I have decided to abandon this issue. After troubleshooting and deeper reflection I conclude the best (and most logical) resolution is to simply push the monitor's power button. Thanks to all for the input.
