Cannot Select Correct Display Resolution For HP Elite E243

Yesterday my computer was working fine. Today when I started it up all the desktop icons were very large. I went to check the display resolution and it says 1600x 900 (recommended) which is wrong. It also showed the wrong monitor profile from my old BENQ monitor which I no longer use. So I had to recalibrate with a Spyder pro 5 to get back the correct colour profile for my HP Elite E243 monitor.

The correct display resolution for the HP Elite E243 is 1920x1080. The problem is that today this option is not available. But it was there yesterday.

Nvidea Geforce Experience says I have the latest driver. Device manager also says I have the latest Monitor driver and the latest display driver (Nvidea). The only windows restore point available is from 6 days ago. I have no idea how the resolution got messed up.

How can I restore the correct resolution of 1920x1080? Your advice would be appreciated.

    Kind regards
    Chris

Thank you for your suggestion. That may have had something to do with it. The settings were set to 60 Hz but I changed my anti flicker on my logitec webcam from 60HZ to 50HZ. I don't know if that affected anything.

So I went into Nvidia control panel and clicked on resolution/customise and created one for 1920 x 1080 custom resolution and enabled it. That was partially successful but some windows features still looked the wrong size. I later disabled the custom resolution. I went to 3D settings and selected to restore all Nvidia settings to default. I also uninstalled the monitor adapter in device manager so it would reinstall on the next reboot. Then after a reboot the 1920x1080 resolution appeared in Windows again.

I thought that the problem was now solved. But all the fonts on my desktop looked blurry. In windows display settings the scale was set to 100% normal. I ran the clear type text twice but that failed to fix the blurry fonts. In desperation, I ran a windows restore point from 6 days ago and that seemed to fix the problem.

Thank you again for your help and suggestion.

    Kind regards

Well the same problem returned. I did a repair install of Windows 10 and the resolution returned to normal for a while but then unexpectedly, while I was using the computer, the screen would go blank and the resolution would revert back to to 1600x 900 and mess everything up.

Acting on a hunch I suspected a hardware problem.

1- I shut down the computer
2- I Pressed the graphics card firmly into the motherboard slot to ensure a good connection.
3- I pulled out the 2 power cables supplying the graphics card and reinserted them
4- I pulled out the display port plug from the graphics card and reinserted it. I made sure the plug in the monitor was pressed firmly in.

Well after restarting, everything seems to be working fine now. Time will tell. Hopefully this information may be able to help someone else.

    Kind regards
    Chris
