Mirror desktop with Seperate Graphics Card

    Hi,

My PC has two graphics card in order to be able to use both a projector and a VGA monitor and I have some difficulties setting it up.

My CPU is Intel Pentium J2900 and it has onboard Intel Graphics and a single VGA port, nothing else.

The projector requires HDMI so we installed an NVIDIA GT 1030 graphics card which has HDMI and DVI. We plugged the HDMI connection into the projector which is working fine. But I would also need to connect it to a VGA monitor.
The DVI connector is free however it is DVI-D, it has a - pin at the end of it and I'm unable to plug a DVI-to-VGA into it. It does not carry analogue VGA signals.

The PC provides graphics output in both modes but only "Extend desktop" and "Use Only Desktop 1/2" are available. There is no way to clone or mirror displays because they are powered by different graphics card, with no mux between them. This is a desktop PC.

How would I ensure a display clone with software? Please note this is a school setting with no budget to buy anything, so an active DVI-to-VGA adapter or a new monitor that has DVI, or even a new PC is completely out of the question. I need a software solution that just mirrors whatever I see on display 1 to display 2.

It's too bad that you have no budget at all for such matters. I see DVI-D to VGA active adapters listed at Amazon for less than $10US.

Is the VGA port on the motherboard active when the GT 1039 is in use? Some motherboards wouldn't permit that.

The OP's time shows 2 hours East of Greenwich [UTC/GMT] so such adapters may be more difficult to obtain and more costly.

I missed that. 6 hours ahead of EDT.

Amazon.co.uk has several adapters at the expected prices (as if UKP were equal in value to US dollars), but I have no idea what things would be like on the Continent.

If the OP was in the US, I'd volunteer to buy an adapter and have Amazon ship it to him/her/it. Costs about the same as a glass of house wine in a US restaurant.
