Display/Brightness not working unless using Basic Display Adapter

    Hi,
I currently have an Acer Aspire E5 573 54TG and unless i switch my display adapter from Intel HD Graphics 5500 to the Windows Basic Display Adapter, i can barely see the desktop. It boots up in full color and brightness but once the log in screen appears, it goes pretty much blank.

I can use the Windows Basic Display to get through my work day however when my daughter tries to use it for Minecraft/Roblox, the CPU cant keep up and its lags massively.

    Any help is massively appreciated.

Hi, this appears to be from around 2020, with an i5 processor.
Acer Aspire E5 E5-573-54TG: Price and specs - Kelaptop

Yet the screen resolution and mention of Windows 8.1 suggests it's older - this suggests from around 2015:
Upgrading an Acer E15 Laptop | Tom's Hardware Forum

I am unable to find its drivers page- so many models. Posters almost never think to provide the URL for this - could you please do so? Thanks.

    History: (rarely provided):
    a. When did the display last function normally?
    b. Which build of Windows was then in use?
    c. What happened around the time this problem occurred?

    Thanks.

Hi and thanks for getting back to me.
The display driver for Intel can be updated via here - Intel(R) Driver & Support Assistant

once scanned it does say there is an update available for the Intel graphics card however i have already downloaded and installed this and it still dosent work. Also, when i go back to that site and re scan, it says the same update is still available to download even though i have downloaded and installed it.

As far as im aware, this is the site to download Acer updates - Product Support | Acer United States

once scanned it shows 33 available updates! ranging from the following
    DRIVER:18
    DOCUMENTS:4
    BIOS/FIRMWARE:8
    PATCH:1
    APPLICATION:2

I have read on a forum about changing an DWORD value in REGEDIT from f000 TO f008
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\0000] "FeatureTestControl"= "Edit DWORD 32 bit"= f000

However i cant find any option to edit the DWORD value

Hi, thanks, that looks like a generic set of drivers- there may or may not be something more specific for your particular model.

I gather from that you're using a current version of the graphics driver from the manufacturer's site.
You should be able to apply any driver update from the manufacturer's site appropriate to your PC quite safely.

    Again:

    b. Which build of Windows was then in use?
    c. What happened around the time this problem occurred?

and for clarity- about how old is it?
