Projection Settings are "lost" after reboot

    Hello,

I am experiencing a strange problem after updating the drivers and BIOS on my laptop:

my prefered setting is "second screen only" . after a reboot I get "duplicate" (de facto) however "second screen only stays selectedin blue.
to fix this I need to move the selection to "duplicate" press enter (nothing happens since it is de facto duplicate) then move down to second screen only and press enter. then it resets to the what it should be.

I tried to Clear and Reset External Display Cache in Registry as many websites advice

as well as disabling intel HD graphics via services . didn't help .

Laptop: HP ZBook Studio G3 Mobile Workstation (with all the drivers and BIOS updated)

Monitor: FUJITSU Display P27-9 TS QHD. (has a proprieatary driver and a realtek us ethernet controller driver installed) it acts as a docking station and connected via usb-c. cable only.
I have removed both and reinstalled already.

    Grtaeful for any assistace.

As I understood from researching your laptop specs , it has dual graphics setup with an Intel P530 acting as primary GPU , now you mention you were advised to stop the Intel's driver service(s) , first advised by whom and why ? I mean as this being the primary GPU it has to function properly so not to glitch ! I would advice then that you reinstall the Intel driver so it cleans up earlier tinkers made to which and allow for proper display management .

However if you managed to switch to high performance GPU (the Nvidia one) in Bios to be your primary/only GPU but you haven't mentioned , if that is the case you might want to uninstall the Intel driver entirely along with the laptop version of your Nvidia driver then install the desktop version instead .

The problem strated before I did anythinyg.
it wasn't direct advice but I tried to search online for that problem and such glitching can not be simply explained amd remedied but with trial and error.
the only thing I found about similar glitching is old posts (since win 7) ressurected after windos updates. untill I reached Tenforums which is excellent.
I couldn't find exactly the same problem as I have online sso I have tried different suggestiins, I have seen.

the user wolverinewinmx describes the same problem however I can't find the offender by diabling quick lunch apps.
havn't tried the Nvidia file solution yet.

Dual monitor settings reset on reboot : kde

meanwhile I have installed the driver from Intel directly and it's a bit newer the one on the official HP .
however it didn't remedied the glitching.

    From HP:
    Version:
    100.8854 Rev.W
    Release date:
    Nov 30, 2020

    From Intel directly:
    Version27.20.100.9466

can it be due to the fact that the external monitor is not always on Nvidia (only when I select exteranl only) and the Laptop Monitor is on intel than it duplicates the laptop monitor to the external after reboot.

Easy please , you reached incorrect conclusions and try to device solutions based on which .

With dual graphics , Intel becomes in charge of all displays and ports , Nvidia however just overlay its rendering over green screens like to be shown by Intel on your screen weather primary or secondary and this technology is called Optimus .

The optimum setting for you is to have Bios graphics set to either "Enable Switchable Graphics" or "Hybrid Mode" or "Dual Graphics Mode" based on the Bios type you have , then install the laptop version of Nvidia as it have Optimus support . If at any point you installed different set of drivers or changed Bios settings back and forth I recommend you reset your bios setting (set to defaults) then uninstall both Intel and Nvidia drivers using DDU then install the latest Intel Driver then the latest Nvidia driver (Laptop Version) then report back .

the only time I have updated the BIOS andwas yesterday as it was from 2016 causing BSOD:

    my thread:
    Critical Structure Corruption

so I switched from AUTO to HYBRID , reinstalled the drivers . it didn't help. so I restored BIOS to factory settings.

btw if I boot without the external monitor attached and attached it when I see the desktop. it switces austomatically. with the right resolution and turning off the laptop monitor as it should be.

The only available recommendations by Microsoft for display settings that resets on restart is clean install the display driver then re-set the new setting after restart .

The only thing that comes to mind if this does not work is that either you need to revert to old manufacturer's Intel Driver as maybe their hardware design require certain custom tweaks that may only be present in their official driver even if old , that or you may have sustained a corruption as a result of consecutive blue screens , where I recommend you do an SFC /SCANNOW to make sure , and maybe create a new Windows user and check if error carries forward to it too or not as maybe the corruption is not in Windows structure but profile rather .

I have tried all of the above but found the problem somewher else!

the Monitor has an input Button/ menu (HDMI, Display Port , USB-C) I thoght it is all, untilll seen the option Daisy-Chain on/off in one of the seperate sub menus under "advanced" it should be on. and it works fine. (I don't understand
this option is used for conncting a third monitor throgh display port.
    but It works.
downside of turning this option on according to the Fujitsu manual the speed reduces from USB 3.1 Gen1 (bis
    5 Gbit/s) to USB 2.0 (480 Mbit/s).

    appriciate your effort, Thank you

Strange as you said you changed nothing but the Bios and Display driver and things used to work for you at this state pre that phase with this monitor without that option being changed .

    yup..
could it be that I installed something unecessary from that page that might interfiere (as I was too eager to update everything to remedy the BSOD)
for example a docking station driver &co. when I don't have one and the monitor is sort of a docking station possible?
