Having 3 monitors with the same issue would require that the Z38c have a design flaw, which I doubt.

You posted that you tried a GTX 980 discrete card, using DisplayPort. (It wasn't a 930, as that did not exist.) The implication was that the issue persisted with that, but it wasn't explicitly stated.

Incidentally, I don't know if every GTX 980 had 3 DP ports plus one HDMI, but I checked a few, and they did. The HDMI port was 1.4a, which wouldn't support 3840X1600.

Sorry that I haven't been able to guess what your issue might be. Finding someone else in this forum who has that exact model may be unlikely.

Yes, you are correct, it was a 980, not a 930. That was a typo.

Today, I hooked up a Zbook 15 G3 to the monitor using a dsiplayport cable and got EXACTLY the same issue. So that's now two different computers having the same issue with the monitor using displayport. It really does look like displayport on this product is an issue!

I'm at a complete loss as to how to get this monitor to work at 3840x1600@60Hz using displayport!

    Odd.

I'd expect that if there was some sort of fundamental DP bug with that monitor, it'd be easy to find mention of that on the Web. (It's a moderately expensive monitor for home use, after all.)

If it was me, mostly out of desperation, I'd still try a DP to HDMI adapter, making sure that it supports DP 1.2 or later and HDMI 2.0 or later. The risk is about $10US, based on what I see at Amazon. That'd be a lot cheaper than a graphics card new enough to support HDMI 2.0.

I purchased a Displayport (v1.2) to HDMI (v2.0) adapter. This plugged into the displayport socket on my PC and then one end of a 4K rated HDMI cable was plugged into the other end of the adapter, with the other end of the HDMI cable plugged into the Z38c monitor.

    This works and I now get 3840x1600 @ 60Hz.

This is yet another indication that the displayport on the Z38c product does not work correctly, not just on the current monitor I have, but also on the previous 2 monitors I tried, suggesting there is an issue with this product that HP need to investigate.

I say this because when ANYTHING is plugged into the Z38c displayport I get blackouts and horizontal flashing. This adapter is plugged into my PC displayport and clearly the signal from that works perfectly otherwise I would be getting issues through the HDMI cable also.

A little surprising, but I'm glad that it worked for you. Well worth $10.
