Cannot connect TV as second display

I am trying to connect my new Smart TV to my PC as a second Display, mirroring the desktop. I am using the same HDMI cable as I used for the previous TV. In Display Settings only the PCs Display is identified. I have tried restarting with no effect. How do I get the PC to detect the TV?

Have you tried updating the video card drivers? I suggest downloading IOBit Driver Booster and letting it update all the drivers in your system and see if that helps.

Check basic stuff like TV settings for HDMI, supported PC input standards etc, and which HDMI socket you are connected to in the TV.
    Consult the manual.
Always have a spare HDMI lead available to check.

I have ordered a new HDMI cable just in case. What I used up to a couple of weeks ago was a new cable connected to an older one, each were too short on their own. This worked OK, but perhaps with my new TV it is the reason for it not working. When the new cable arrives I will at least be able to eliminate that possibility. Also today I have received and fitted a new short HDMI cable to connect the TV to my LG Recorder (as the TV does not have a Scart socket)--- they are now working fine together, although the new TV has 3 HDMI ports so I have to select the right one first instead of it working immediately the Recorder is powered up.

As regards the 3 HDMI ports I now have number 3 with Chromecast, 2 with a Recorder ---both working OK, but number 1 intended for the TV connection as a second display is not yet detecting the TV.
