    Cant make monitor main priorty.

I have just installed a new graphics card:-
    GT710-SL-2GD5|Graphics Cards|ASUS Global

I have my main PC monitor connected via VGA and my TV across the room with HDMI.
The problem is that the TV shows the boot-up image first before my monitor, although its not a big issue it is if i want to go into BIOS as it shows it solely on the TV and not my monitor so i cant see what's going on.

Ive tried to make my Monitor priority but each time it boots the TV just before the monitor.

    I have this MB:-
    officialsite

I was wondering if i cant get the above to work but if not then this MB has a HDMI output on it and thought i could use this as an output also but when i use this slot on the TV nothing shows.

My old card was this one and worked perfectly fine to show on monitor and TV but have the monitor as the priority;-
    EAH4350 SILENT/DI/1GD2 | Graphics Cards | ASUS India

Any help greatly appreciated, thank you.

I had a similar problem. I had to boot the computer to the TV, then open the Nvidia control panel (on the TV), and then set my monitor to the primary display.

You might also have to use the DVI-D connector on your vid card to drive the monitor.

On my last computer (before this one), I had a 780 Ti. I used DVI for the monitor and HDMI for the TV, and that worked OK, after I got the monitor set to primary.

I don't see which monitor you have in the computer specs, so I can't tell if it has a DVI connector.

    /edit

Without an adapter, you can plug the Single Link connectors into the Dual Link connectors and the DVI-D into the DVI-I, but not the other way around.

Your ASUS GT 710 has a dual link DVI-D connector.

Just updated my PC specs, only just rebuilt it and most of those listed have changed now.

As for my monitor it has a VGA connector so wont fit anywhere else other then the graphics card.

Is the issue that it just recognises the HDMI as priority then over the VGA?

Is there any reason why i cant get a picture when i plug the HDMI into the MB instead of the card?

Yeah. For some reason the folks that code the vid card BIOSes, decided to give the HDMI connector on the vid card, the highest priority of the connector types.

You might want to grab a DIV-D cable and a DVI-D to VGA adapter. Or get a new monitor, that has a DVI-D connector.
For example, all these have DVI-D connectors...

As for no image when using the MB HDMI, it because your CPU has no graphics part, so there's nothing coming out of the MB HDMI connector. An AMD CPU like a 3400G on the other hand, does have an internal graphics part, and could power the MB HDMI connector.

Ah great thanks that answers why the MB HDMI wont play if the CPU has no graphics output!

Would using an DVI-D to VGA adapter still work then if the HDMI is given highest priority?

Can't tell until you try. The vid card manufacturers aren't saying. Like I said above...on my 780 Ti, DVI to monitor and HDMI to TV worked.

But then, on my RTX 2070 (which has 3x Display Port and 1x HDMI), the ONLY way I could get it to work was...

If I used any other Display Port for the DELL, but the one labeled...it would get messed up. Either the BIOS splash screen or all the way to the lock screen, would ONLY show on the TV.
Fortunately, the DELL U3011 has like, every cable connector there is.

Have ordered a DVi-D to VGA adapter, will report back how it goes.
    Thanks for the help.

Adapter just arrived but alas the same issue, PC just boots to the TV via HDMI first before the monitor does so not even sure if a new monitor would help as that wouldn't be HDMI.

    Try this...

Go into Nvidia control panel > set up multiple displays.

Make sure the "monitor" is set to primary, then uncheck the TV from the list of displays.
    Click apply and answer yes.

    Then reboot the computer.

Does everything come up on the monitor? Or does the monitor have a black screen cause everything is really on the TV?

    /edit

If that doesn't help, then I would try to borrow a monitor with a DVI connector and try that.
On my 700 series card (780Ti), things worked fine with DVI to monitor and HDMI to TV.

VGA is an OLD connector, it would probably have the lowest priority.

Just to double check. You have the monitor set as the "Primary" display (shown by the asterisk), right?

I unplugged the HDMI and set the monitor to priority 1 but a soon as i plug the TV in that becomes number 1.
Its fine for extending the desktop but i want to duplicate/clone the screens so i can se the same on both but as soon as i do this the TV gets priority and shows the boot screen not the monitor.

    @gbu

Ok... does it work properly in the 2nd pic? That pic has the LG E1940 (monitor) set as primary display, as shown by the asterisk.

In the bottom pic... you might have to get the LG E1940 changed to the #1 display to have it work like you want.
I've never seen the reason to clone a display. I WANT them to show different things.

So... I'm guessing that you need to get the LG E1940 to be the #1 display in the bottom pic.

Try the bottom-most post at this link...
