Monitor won't sleep properly. Goes black, indicator light is still on

Hello everyone! This is my first post here, hope it goes well

    Issue:
I have set my monitors to turn off after 5 mins, and the PC is set to "never" sleep. At five minutes the monitors will turn off and sleep and the monitor indicator light will turn orange, but only for a few seconds. After a few seconds the indicator light will turn white but the screen remains black. So nothing is being displayed, but the monitors are definitely not sleeping as indicated by the white light. I have done searched online but not found a solution yet.

    Additional info:
    -This is a fresh install of Windows 10 Home(x64) version 20H2 (19042.804)
-My monitor drivers are installed (Asus ProArt 27" monitors PA278QV)
-Latest nVidia drivers installed (GeForce experience not installed, drivers only)
-USB selective suspend is Disabled in power options
-I have no gaming controllers installed (known to cause sleep issues)

Let me know if you have any ideas or any additional questions about my setup. Cheers!

Hello @lzj88 and welcome to TF ,
What is the purpose of the white light according to your monitor manual?

My monitors turn back too when they sleep, but I have to press the power button for them to completely turn off. I've never had them completely turn off automatically.

Hi Steve. The white light is when the monitor is using full power, it's the color I see when I am using the monitor normally. The orange light indicates low power or sleep mode, where the monitor is not receiving any signal data. The orange color is what I see when it is in sleep state.

Why do you have the PC set to never sleep?

That would stop the video output and allow the monitor to go into further energy saving mode.

Because I have processes running in the background 24/7 which I don't want turned off.

There are some third party apps that you might be able to try. Using the Task Scheduler, have the app send the monitor an off command on the screen lock condition.

I've been using Nirsoft products for years. NirCmd is one.

Hi Steve, thank you for the links and suggestion of the NirSoft option. I am honestly looking for Windows to behave normally and for the monitor to stay off via the embedded power settings which I am already using, i.e. to go to sleep after a set amount of time and stay that way until it is woken via mouse or keyboard movements.

The monitor is receiving the off signal from windows, it's just not staying off as I described above. I want to figure out what is causing this.

I understand that desire, but sometimes it's just futile - if you figure out something, let me know please.
