multi monitor issue - screen staying black

So I have 2 monitors connected to an rtx 2070, one via hdmi (4k) and 1 via displayport (1440p). I mirror the screens so both display the same content.

This usually works, however for reasons I can not isolate one or both monitors show only black screens sometimes at random. This is always after a period of inactivity, for example when I leave the computer on and go out for a bit. Sometimes I can leave it all day and the problem does not happen.
On the 4k monitor the screen will not return until the computer is reset no matter what, on the 1440p screen the display will not return sometimes until a computer reset but other times pressing ctrl alt and delete causes the display to instantly resume operation as normal. No other button combinations seem to do this.

I have disabled all power saving settings, there is no screensaver enabled, sleep and hibernation are disabled and the cables and monitors are not at fault. I have also reinstalled windows and there is no change to the situation.

    Any ideas?

Well done as this was first thing to come to mind .

Now second thing to come to mind is you providing details on both monitors used , some hybrid monitor/tv(s) black out to save screen if screen remained static for a while , it happens auto and would not resume until you press their power button .

But you do say that ctrl + alt + delete may have an impact on turning them on which shakes that theory , yet however maybe consulting their manuals may explain .

--Edit--Further searching lead to that samsung monitors when acquiring swollen capacitors may have problems detecting if they are having signals or not replacing those capacitors may be the fix , now your monitors may not be samsung , but if they are old that tip is worth considering .
