    My desktop is a laptop

Lenovo 700 connected to an external monitor via HDMI. I upgraded to 2004 on Nov. 8, several updates on Nov. 19 to bring it up to .630. Since then (Nov. 19) when I put it to sleep (at the end of the day) wake it up in the morning it wakes up in 'PC screen only', Project is always set for 'Second screen only' unless I'm working on a project where I need the 'Extend' Project.

Is it Windows or is it Lenovo?

Combination of both. HDMI handshake can come back that the external monitor is not active unless you set to mirror it. Some devices like tablets need to be logged into the device before an external device is allowed.

did you by any chance ticked "Make this my main display" over the pc monitor in Display settings ? If so then reverse it .

This is weird, Display settings only shows one display, clicked on Detect gave me "Didn't detect another display". Yes I'm on the external display.

When it wakes up now I can get the display on my external monitor by just raising the lid an inch or two.

I would 100% blame the computer if it hadn't happened the night of the update.

It is normal for some devices to =not send a signal when the lid is closed. See if this workaround will help(last post). Switching on Yoga 700-11 while lid is closed-English Community

That is correct for this laptop, with the lid open both displays show up in Display settings, and make this my main display is grey out when second screen only or extended is ' projected' for the external monitor, it is unclicked when looking at screen 1.

I guess I solved it, acceptable workaround. Placed a little bumper to keep the screen open ~3/8", now it wakes up on the external monitor. Not really solved but close enough.

Some have used a magnet to trigger lid close.
