I run extended desktop, but switch that monitor to another PC and...

the extended desktop running app is dead to me, I cant retrieve it, it is set to show on the extended desktop. How can I move it back to the non extended desktop??? I was hoping to be able to right click the icon on taskbar and say move right. So close it and open it, it will continue to be pegged to the extended desktop, and I can not see it.

Right now, I have to find the remote, and flip the HDMI source of the display back to the other PC, then drag it back over.

I just did reboot, and it remembers which monitor the app was running on. With the input selection on the monitor set to a different input. Maybe if extended monitor is unplugged, it will jump back over?
How about if extended monitor is turned off?

You can always Alt-Tab to it. When it has focus, press Win+left or right arrow (or Win+Shift+left)) till it's brought to your desktop

oK, trying this. alt+tab shows the windows open on extended monitor on the main monitor. I can then while still holding alt-tab down, use left or right arrow to highlight an open window. But it never moves the whole window app to my main display. If I let go of alt+tab, those windows disappear on the main monitor.

Are you saying you have to hold down 5 keys at the same time?
I dont have enough fingers to do all this selecting of keys and holding them all down at the same time. I know sounds dumb, but if I let go of alt +tab, they are gone.

How to Move a Window to Another Monitor on Windows 10

I did find another way to make it work just now
looking at main monitor, see on the task bar the open window, in this case Chrome. Click it so it is highlighted on the task bar, the icon.
Then hold windows key, then hold shift key, then press right or left arrow and the window moves to the main monitor or back again.

    I will mark it solved

No, not holding 5 keys together.. tried to describe what you said in your update. When the window you want to move has focus, let alt+tab, and then hold Win key and use arrows. If you press shift it's quicker, but would eventually bring your app windows back to your display without shift, too.

    Glad you solved it ..

Ok, I get what your saying, its easier for me to just use the mouse and click the icon on the task bar to get the focus. Then move it over using the keys.

That's even better. If you have taskbar set to show apps on all desktops.

Must be a default setting, otherwise I would not know how to change that. Thanks for the help.
