    External monitor distorted at 1920 x 1080

    Hello everyone,
    I just got a new Dell Inspiron 5593 laptop with integrated Intel Iris Plus video, and I'm trying to use it with my Hannspree HF289H monitor using a USB cable, which is listed as having a resolution of 1920 x 1200. I have been using this monitor for years without any issues with my old HP HP Probook 4540s laptop at 1920 x 1200. When I connect this monitor to my new Dell Inspiron and I try to use 1920 x 1200 (which I have to set up manually in the Intel Graphics Command Center software) or 1920 x 1080 resolution, which is the highest resolution the software normally displays, it looks very messed up. It's blurry and everything looks narrow and vertically stretched/tall. The Intel software says that it the "recommended" resolution is 1680 x 1050. When I switch to that, the blurriness and distortions go away, and everything looks normal, but I don't want to use it at 1680 x 1050 because everything on the screen is too big. I want to use it at 1920 x 1200 like I have in the past so I can fit more stuff on the screen. But I cannot figure out a way to do it without everything looking totally crappy. I've played with the settings in the Intel software and nothing helps. I'm not sure why my old HP laptop with Intel HD Graphics card didn't have this problem. Both my new Dell and old HP were running Windows 10 Home. Please help!
    Thanks!

    Hi folks

    @nosher1

    Try on the Monitor itself (not via Windows) at the resolution selected - use the Monitor hardware menu or the remote - you'll probably see some sort of settings "automatically adjust screen size" or equivalent. This will often fix this type of problem which could (not always) be caused by slight over / under scan from the PC's video output.

    Ensure also Monitor refresh rate is correct at resolution selected.

    Cheers

    I presume you are using the HDMI port that should receive the EDID information from the monitor.

    Alternatively you can download the INF (driver) file for the monitor which does the same task. i.e. telling Windows/Intel iGPU what modes are supported.

    I would return your monitor to default settings.

    The Intel control/command centre panel should indicate 1920 x 1200 as a maximum resolution. If it is not then it is not receiving that EDID information/INF information.

    "I try to use 1920 x 1200 (which I have to set up manually in the Intel Graphics Command Center software) "
    That should not be necessary, the resolutions available in the Intel panel should be the same as in Windows settings for the display.

    The HDMI lead should be changed to eliminate possible faulty lead, there is also the possibility the monitor has a slight fault, it is quite old.
