Its not the driver , the driver has no control over your cpu . I am thinking something though , you either have a small amount of rams or have a generic sata driver installed or both .

A primary solution would be that you need to install your manufacturer's sata driver or one from intel known to support your chipset and see if things got slightly better , else check to see if you can upgrade your ram .

    .
I always had 12GB of ram installed, which I think should be plenty in general. The only trouble I have regarding ram maybe is that I have a have quite a lot of tabs open in my browser, but a tab suspender reduces memory usage, so I hope the currently 381 tabs are not the problem. I have been operating like that for years, just the tab suspender is new..

It is just a little cat and mouse game. When I first installed your driver, loading youtube caused the "switch", that scrolling in other tabs even text based tabs became very cpu intense and lagging. Yesterday youtube somehow worked fine as expected, but the loading of the comments section of Aktuelle News: Nachrichten aus Berlin und der Welt – Tagesspiegel caused it/ it happend after loading.
Unfortunately my knowledge of graphics programming/drivers/apis is rather non existant, but my idea was that maybe hardware acceleration is somehow turned off in those situations temporarily and replaced by cpu emulation causing the load spike and this failure of hardware acceleration may somehow happen due to faulty drivers?

Thanks for the idea with the Sata driver. This is the driver I have currently installed.Custom Driver : Intel HD Graphics 2000 3000 Extreme Plus -by nIGHmAYOR-chipset_driver.png Seems non generic to me and I cant find a newer one.

You are right about cleaning. As my hinge is broken again I will have to open up half of the computer and will combine it with cleaning and reapplying thermal paste after nearly 9 years. But if graphics work correctly with passive/non audible cooling I stay within 60-70°C whilst browsing, just like it used to do in 2012. In the "defect" mode browsing becomes a noisy pain due to the heat which is difficult to go back to after this long time of near total silence.

You said this happened to you on previous driver as well and hoped my driver would solve this , question is why are you so sure this is gpu related , why not for example you have some bad configuration or a malware that causes this cpu strain ?

I recommend you do an in place windows update using media creation tool which would replace the driver to windows default and reset most settings , then start a support thread in forum trying to figure why the slow down in system .

I am no more convinced It was just my first guess. You are right, maybe it is the time to ask in a separate thread. But thanks very much for the help and your work on the driver!

Hello Nightmayor! this custom driver is working smoothly on my laptop. Are you planning to release more updates? if so can you add support for dx11? I wanted to run Valorant but it says an error "Cannot launch DirectX 11_10 feature", I'm confused because the Valorant minimum requirement says Intel HD 3000 is enough. Thanks!

The GPU feature level is DX 10.1 , DX 11 has new functions not supported by the GPU so I cant push it any further with this GPU else it will glitch due to lack of these functions .

Valorant on the other hand has many pages that says if you plan to run it at 30 fps minimal system requirement would be HD 3000 . I have not played that game nor have a mean to test it , so your best bet is consult its forum see if it needs certain tweaks to run on such setup as yours , it may require certain tweaks pre running the game or they may reveal that they have dropped support over time of directx 10.x gpu where reverting to older versions of the game if possible might be your solution .

What changes does it make with respect to an original driver to optimize it? I would like to know

Increasing Dedicated Memory to maximum supported , memory optimizations , turning off useless features that only drain gpu with no evident quality improvement , priority optimizations , mild over-clocking (only marginal improvement since the over-clocking is via a trick as the GPU does not support over-clocking)

I wanted to know more at a value level, I am working on making the most complete optimization guide for windows. And I would like to include how to modify an intel driver to improve performance, it's something I don't know much about.
If you don't mind telling me, sure.

    - - - Updated - - -

I would also like to know to make me one to see if I get a performance improvement in my equipment. Because I think the driver you made is not compatible with my Intel HD.
I have an Intel Celeron N2840.

This is a long process I don't have time for but maybe when you start publishing your work you can forward me a link and i will attempt to give away some hints if missing .

As for accelerating your GPU i just suggest you use this particular driver made by intel : -NEW- Intel(R) Beta Graphics Driver for Windows(R) 10 and Windows* 7/8.1... , is by far the best they made and it cant get any better from there despite being few years old .

New Windows 11 on the road

I will add that in Windows 11, the Intel HD Graphics Arrandale (1st gen, I7-640M) works just as smoothly and perfectly, despite the long-term end of support. For HD Graphics 3000 this one will not be a problem for real .
I won’t still update my laptop with HD Graphics 3000 (i7-2620M) to Windows 11 yet, because the update (which has not yet been officially released) does not support saving files and programs.
