Why is text BLURRY in dialog boxes (laptop only)?

Posting here but not certain that this is a graphics card issue...

For some reason, my laptop often shows "non crisp" fonts in pop up / dialogue boxes. See screenshots... would love to solve this and have all text be crisp. This happens only on my laptop (Asus N550JV).

"The problem is if you have a screen with a resolution of 1920×1080 or higher, most users put the DPI scaling to at least 125% to make everything easier to read. However, it also makes desktop programs, that aren’t designed to run at high resolutions, look small and difficult to see. And because Windows 10 is using a different scaling method for DPI, it causes the fuzzy text problem."

Thanks for the tip. I believe I had tried already but because it is only "blurry/less crisp" in the dialog boxes, that's why I am here asking for assistance.

Yes my laptop is 1920x1080 and it is set to 125% since that is indicated as "Recommended" by Windows 10. "Fix Scaling for Apps" is also enabled. I will double check and explore the links you provided. Its especially noticeable or only blurry in software program installation dialog boxes AND Properties boxes. Just like user ntd252 at Turn On or Off Fix Scaling for Apps that are Blurry in Windows 10 but it doesnt sound like he got it resolved.

    What browser are you using?

This might help for your screen resolution: resolution - Fonts in some programs look blurry on a 1920x1080 IPS monitor in Windows 8 - Super User

Thanks for the link. This user seems to have solved it using Windows XP scaling... which is obv not an option now as far as I can tell.

I've played around with ClearType, Fix Scaling for Apps, and the resolution % that Windows is set to. Seems to be the only 3 things possible. But wasn't really able to solve it.

I don't even need to launch programs or open dialog boxes to check for crispness. I just need to click the Start menu and look at the font there.

What I don't understand is how am I still in 1920x1080HD when I have scaling set to 125%? The recommended resolution is 1080p and the recommended scaling is 125%. But that seems contradictory to me. Also, why is disabling ClearType even an option? Who would not want crisper fonts?

Right now seems I'm just going to have to live with this.

ClearType is form of anti-aliasing applied to fonts to provide greater readability, particularly smaller fonts.
This is not the same as crispness.

ClearType tuning is varying the anti-aliasing to make fonts more readable on a monitor.
    Scaling also involves some anti-aliasing.

I would do the scaling setting first, and then go to the ClearType tuning.

The different areas of your sample images show the "crisp" text with no anti-aliasing, and the "blurry" areas with some anti-aliasing.
Whilst you can see the difference in your images it is rather insignificant.

Switching off ClearType will make text more crisp, but smaller fonts may almost dissappear when they are less than a pixel width.

"What I don't understand is how am I still in 1920x1080HD when I have scaling set to 125%? "
Display panels have fixed pixels, if it is 1920 x 1080 that is it fixed. The scaling applies to the material/images/video sent for display.

No one below gave the right answer. The answer is that what you see is not text, it is an image with lower resolution than the 4K you are used to. You will see that some newer programs don't have this issue, since they have been compiled with more recent compilers.
Nothing to do with cleartext, scaling (sure: you can downgrade your 4K screen to HD only, which would be stupid) The only answer is: live with it, it not such a big deal, since you don't have to watch it all the time.

Windows 10 Display Distortion and Font Distortion on System Dialog Box

I'm having the exact same problem on Lenovo Legion Laptop connected to external monitor (built in display turned off). Started about 10 days ago. No new monitor or computer, no changed settings (everything is default: 1920x1080 monitor, clear type on, no scaling, etc). And of course, I tried changing all these things and it made matters worse. May have happened after windows update, but not 100% sure about that. For the most part the issue only shows up on dialog boxes, but also on certain parts of applications. For instance, browser tabs are distorted but browser URL and bookmarks are clear. Literally, every windows system dialog box is distorted. In most apps there is no distortion at all (e.g. Excel is still crystal clear).

This is very difficult to troubleshoot and obviously frustrating. Did anyone ever figure out a fix?

There is nothing wrong with that image or the text. I see no problem at all, text is perfect.
    Where is the problem ?

The Windows TenForums logo and lettering is an image.

Your image is a mix of scalable fonts and images of text.

ClearType deals with scalable fonts, not the images of text.
