On my Win 10 Pro (version 1909) I have the screen turn off time set to 20 minutes and the PC sleep time set to 2 hours. I would assume these times are times of continuous no use.
However, even when I am in the middle of typing something, the screen sometimes shuts off. Sometimes this is only occasional, and sometimes every two or three minutes.

Hi mdberger.Is it a desktop or laptop? Maybe your monitor is overriding the Windows screen-timer? Does it have a sleep-mode or eco-mode from the panel itself? Strange that it just goes off wile you're typing something, like something is not working right.
Are the cables good and in place?
Thanks for your suggestions. Its a desktop. The monitor is one I have had for years; no problems. Presently, it is shared with an old Win 7 box via a KVM switch. No such problem on the old box. In at least one recent instance, what it did was log off while I was working. Cables are new and solidly in place.
What happens when you click on "never" when it should sleep. Will it go off eventually regardless? And does it have the same symptom when you unhook the switch, (when it's alone)? A process of elimination is what I mean.
I reported a similar or related issue to Microsoft via its Feedback Hub feature app...
that is My screen was set to go off at 20 minutes, BUT never does... it does not go off if I set it to 1 minute...
and I set sleep mode to never as I don't want it to go to sleep...
so my issue is similar I guess... or at least slightly related...
I just switched both time outs to never. It will be interesting to see what happens. I am not in a rush to take it off the KVM switch. That would present a substantial inconvenience. The switch does not connect the two computers. They are "connected", however, on the LAN, along with several other devices.

I wonder if there is another parameter which effects the time outs. I would be happy to hear what Microsoft says.

After setting both time outs to never, I I did a few other things and then waited more than an hour. Nothing happened; the system was up and responsive.
I found a web site: Windows 10 auto-logout on <5 minutes of inactivity - Super User
that mentions a hidden parameter that might be relevant.
In the mean time, I'm resetting the two time out parameters 20 min and 2 hours.

I forgot to mention that I also unchecked the resume, display login screen option.
