I tried the GT710 card but it wasn't much better than the 210
So I've put the 210 back and reinstalled Linux Mint. But I googled the BIOS for the motherboard and found it was out of date - version 0503 whereas the most recent is 0602. I did notice that 0602 is supposed to remedy the following - 'Fix the screen may become scrambled when running Turbo C'
I haven't a clue whether or not Win 10 runs Turbo C but I like the part where it says 'the screen may become scrambled'. I may attempt to update the BIOS - if I feel brave enough. Wish me luck!
The 710 should have a better performance than the 610 for 3D gaming. UserBenchmark: Nvidia GeForce GT 610 vs 710 Both are execrable by current standards for that.
For regular 2D graphics, either may serve.
I have never had a BIOS update fail - except for two of the first UEFI motherboards I owned. Neither had the BIOS recovery mode available with the M2N-MX SE Plus. You ought to be safe enough.
(Jeepers. I hadn't noticed that it's an old Geforce 6100/nForce 430 board. I can't recall when nVidia exited the AMD chipset business.)
I've not updated the BIOS on the AMD system (+ GT210 card) 'cos LM20 is running well - I'll let sleeping dogs lie...
I've installed the GT710 card in the newer PC and it's running fine.
I've loaded Win 10 Pro to a spare SSD which I'll run from time to time to install updates, etc.
I'll mark the issue as solved, though it isn't.
Thanks to Grom0X and bobkn for their input.
