After heaps of trouble shooting and testing I have the following. The issue is somehow hardware related not software.
The flickering occurs in the bios as well as everywhere else. I updated the bios, that made no difference. If I put my old graphics card back into my system then it no longer works via DP with the monitor so it would seem it must be the monitor. HDMI still works fine on the old and new cards. I do not have another DP equipped monitor that I can test unfortunately.

I suspect you have a fault with the Dispalyport connector or interface circuit in your monitor. Try another monitor to fault find.

    I assume so.
Unfortunately I don't have another monitor with DP connection.

In that case there is a hardware problem in either the Graphics Card or the Monitor DisplayPorts, as often the video modes for the BIOS/UEFI are pretty basic standard modes.
As you have swopped the Graphics Card and cable and it is still the same, then that would indicate a Monitor DisplayPort fault.

Yes, thank you. Pretty much ruled out everything else now. Guess I'll have to buy a new monitor or just use HDMI.

Thank you. I hadn't. I tried it but it doesn't apply to my card, its for older models.

    Cheers
