Windows Update won't Install Graphics Driver in v2004

Just updated Windows 10 to v2004, and thereafter a new Driver update appeared that won't install. The Driver already exists on my PC and the loop resulting after installation of v2004 is explained in this link.

    https://www.windowslatest.com/2020/0...river-in-loop/

I have deleted the Windows Update cache as described in the article, but am reluctant to proceed to the 2nd solution that requires me to uninstall my current driver, accept a generic driver, and try to get Windows Update to install the driver. Driver will, in fact, install and Update.

Is it safe to uninstall my UHD Graphics driver; and after reboot, will I be able to reinstall my UHD driver through Window 10 Update? The article attached says it "should" update, but I'm not comfortable with "should".Windows Update reinstall

    Any advice is appreciated.

Always take an Image before, it is the only sure thing. (and make sure rescue media works and can see image)

Yes you should be fine uninstalling.

You could head to Intel and download the driver and have in your back pocket to be sure or you could pre-install Intel's Driver & Support Assistant which will scan and update drivers. I say preinstall as you could test to determine if it is evaluating your present driver.

Of course this is where the Image comes in..... if Windows does a Windows thing you can restore.

Thank you Ken. I'm more comforted.

    Be well....

I have downloaded and installed Intel Driver & Support Assistant which detected other upgrades that I installed.

I then proceeded to uninstall the UHD Graphics Driver from Device Manager as instructed in the link.
    https://www.windowslatest.com/2020/0...river-in-loop/

I then rebooted the system hoping to see a generic graphics driver that I could update via Windows 10. What I got after the reboot was my UHD Driver back. So the Windows Update loop that wants to install a driver I already have, continues.

Perhaps I should just wait for Microsoft the fix the problem. I'm sure they are aware of this bug.

    Thx Ken.

Should be able to run DDU

Official Display Driver Uninstaller DDU Download

And it will remove Display Driver.

You should be able to then update.

Yes, everything is perfect again. After updating to v2004 Windows 10, an Intel UHD Graphics Driver which I already have, wanted to install continuously. Windows Update would show a Driver update that would fail with every attempt, but Update History showed it installed, and numerous times per day if you Retried to install often enough.

This Show/Hide tool solved that problem.

    Thx again...
