How to project to screen and use laptop for other purpose at once

I have an Acer laptop and am running Windows 10. I am a high school teacher and I'm trying to project something onto the screen for the class to be watching and while that's happening I want to be able to work on the laptop on something else. So I've tried searching for how to split the screen etc but everything I try, when I actually project it, everything on my screen is projected. Can someone please help?

I believe your looking for is extended screen.
There are several modes available for projecting.
You could move what ever to the extended screen while working
on whatever on the main screen.

    Welcome to Ten Forums @alvallis

It would appear that the Extend option would fit the bill.

Extend (default) The main display is extended across the all connected display screens and allows you to have a desktop that spans them.

No I've tried that and it doesn't work. Just puts my desktop on the screen which I can't interact with.

Yes I've tried this but it just puts my desktop on the screen and leaves the open browser and video I want to watch on my laptop screen.
