NEED Windows 10 64-bit Driver for Intel HD 3000

I am new. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this community. Forgive me if I need to cut to the chase.

I filled all of this out during registration but I will summarize it anyway for your convenience. I have a DELL Latitude E6320. It's a loaded business laptop and I love it. But it has a little problem - it's 2nd Gen - Intel HD 3000 Graphics. Windows 10 Pro x64 installed on it from Windows 7 Ultimate x64 without any issues - even auto-activated itself and installed all its drivers on its own. This was a few years back. Recently, it updated to the latest build - 18363.836.

Anyway, after scouring the Internet (Microsoft and Intel websites specifically), I realized that Intel stopped supporting 2nd Generation graphics and Windows 10 DOES NOT OFFICIALLY support HD 3000 also known as Sandy Bridge. Technically, it is running on a Microsoft Driver for HD 3000. It works fine. It can even double-display if I attach a second monitor or a projector. But this is not the problem.

The problem is that Windows 10 is DirectX 12, Intel HD 3000 officially supports up to DirectX 10.1. A game I want to play on it requires DirectX 11. Guess what? The game actually starts but doesn't work as expected (plenty of graphical artifacts and laggy music and sound) and crashes around 10-15 minutes while playing so, maybe, it really requires DirectX 11 to run smoothly. After some research, I found out that Intel HD 3000 is capable of running DirectX 11 but Intel just didn't want to (for some reason). I got this information from a developer who makes console game emulators on PC. Intel HD 3000 is even capable of OpenGL 3.3 among other things - and that is cool.

In eightforums, a website similar to this, a group of guys were able to create a modified/custom HD 3000 driver for Windows 8/8.1 that was designed for Windows 7. Intel took a while to release an official Windows 8 driver so the community made their own when Windows 8 was released. I came here in hopes that a similar group would have built something for Windows 10 - an Intel HD 3000 driver that runs on Windows 10 with all its features activated and DirectX 11 supported. If not here, maybe someone can point me to people who can.

For the curious, the game is Command & Conquer Remastered Collection - the one just released 2 days ago. And for the even more curious, the non-remastered version of Red Alert (and Command & Conquer Generals: Zero Hour) is installed on it and works just fine - just without the HD graphics.

    Thank you for your time.

According to Wikipedia, the HD 3000 graphics only supports DirectX 10.1 in hardware (List of Intel graphics processing units - Wikipedia).

DirectX12 can fill in the missing hardware features in software emulation. It may be possible to find better drivers than the ones you're using, but if the game wants to use DX features that you don't have in hardware, performance may be poor.

Sorry that I can't be encouraging.

Thank you, bobkn, for your answer and for taking the time. I apologize if my initial post was a bit confusing. Please allow me to clear things up a bit.

This was actually my point. In the Intel website and in Wikipedia (as you pointed out), it supports DirectX 10.1 in hardware (I am fine with that if that's really true). While it would be interesting to actually get it to theoretically support DirectX 11 on hardware or software emulation, my intention is not only that. I want a driver that will activate all its features previously available in Windows 7/8 in Windows 10. In short, Intel HD 3000 is not fully utilized in Windows 10.

To further prove this, there is a list of compatible games on the Intel website on HD 3000 running on Windows 7 (Playable Games List for Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000/2000). I have 90% of all the games on that list, probably more. But I can tell you that I can't run half of them on Windows 10 on my laptop but I can run the same games on another machine with a GeForce card and Windows 10.

Example: I tried Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 and X3 Terran Conflict on my laptop. These games won't even run but they are supposed to run flawlessly on Windows 7 in the same machine as stated above. I tried them on my desktop PC with GTX-1080 running the same version and build of Windows 10, and they work fine - even in Ultra graphics settings. That means, these games have no compatibility problems with Windows 10 itself so the problem must be with graphics support.

So, the complete title of this thread should be: I NEED a Windows 10 64-bit Driver for Intel HD 3000 that completely activates all its designed features like it did with older versions of Windows.

The Intel Core i5-2540M in your laptop is considered to be a "legacy" model.
The Intel HD Graphics 3000 in your laptop is considered to be a "2nd generation" model.
The Intel site does not provide driver support for Windows 10 64-bit.
However, the Microsoft Update Catalog site does have a Windows 10 64-bit driver (9.17.10.4459) which is 99.6 MB in size and was released in May 2016.

Hi flavallee. I know this already. But thank you for clarifying that even further.

NEED Windows 10 64-bit Driver for Intel HD 3000-igfx.jpg

And as you can see, that is what I am currently using. I appreciate your effort because this tells me that there is no other Microsoft-Intel "official" driver that is later than the one I am currently using.

I have to make another apology and change the title to: I NEED a Windows 10 64-bit CUSTOM/MODIFIED Driver for Intel HD 3000 that completely activates all its designed features like it did with older versions of Windows because the most current Microsoft-Intel Windows 10 64-bit driver (9.17.10.4459) does not fully utilize its features.

Until I can get the games on that compatibility list on the Intel website to run again on my laptop, this search will not end.

Hey Pluginz, you are correct. I do have the capability and the means to do it myself. More than 10 years ago, I used to work at Dell and at Microsoft and I am a software developer, PC tech, and network engineer.

But there is a saying, "do not reinvent the wheel". It effectively warns us not to waste our time working on creating something that has already been created by someone else, or trying to solve a problem that has already been solved by someone else. The reason why I am here is because someone might have already done it because the system in question is old. Also, even though there is a pandemic going on, I am working at 300% my usual workload. Growing up as a gamer, games are my relief from stress.

But anyway, IF I do find the time (and that's a big IF), and no one here or on other forums would be able to provide a solution to my request, then that would be my only option - to do it myself.

    wimle:

I didn't know your laptop already had driver version 9.17.10.4459, or else I wouldn't have posted what I did.
I didn't mind anyway trying to help.
    Good luck with your quest.

    Maybe a stupid idea, but....

Install the game in Compatibility Mode for Windows 7.

I suppose that if you're an experienced software pro, you've already tried this.

For the other games in the Intel list, yes I tried. Older games worked, newer ones not so much. And it's NOT a stupid idea.

For the Command & Conquer Remastered Collection, it runs off of Steam. CnC-Remastered also requires 64-bit Win8.1/10. I also tried using DirectX Control Panel (dxcpl) to enable WARP (DirectX Software Rendering) and all I get is a black screen. It was because of this that I started looking into the feature set of HD 3000 and concluded that I needed a specially-modified driver for Windows 10.

Thank you everyone for sharing your thoughts with me on this.
