External Monitor For HP Laptop ?

    Hello,

My Grandson has a 2 year old HP Laptop. Running W10.
Not sure of model number, but of course can get in the future.

With the at-home schooling now, thought it might be a good idea to get
hime a "real" good size monitor for it.

Should be better, I would imagine, than doing everything on the small screen.

Question: Do most fairly recent HP laptops have a way of having the
base unit "drive" an external monitor ?

If so, can the unit's built in monitor be shut-off so as not to distract; only the new
external larger monitor being active ?

Any general thoughts on this would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Bob

most laptops have connection for externl monitor, But they different. HDMI is the most common in the last years.
Yes, you can switch off laptop's screen. But you have to give us the laptop model type

I have the power settings/options on my HP laptop set so that when I close the lid, it does nothing.

So, plug in/connect HDMI to desktop monitor, shut the lid on the laptop and it runs just like any desktop screen with no "duplicate" monitor distraction.

    Hi all,

Thanks for help and thoughts with this.

Laptop Model Number (I think) is: 24-b240.

Might also be called a HPavilion 15, but not sure.

Question: dumb question, but I've never had a Laptop.

How does one use the keypad if cover closed, as was suggested ?

    Thanks,
    Bob

I have seen an iMAC that one of my clients uses but not a Mac and only one Windows All-in-One but not a separate monitor with camera. BHPhoto lists several monitors with a Webcam but they are pricey.

I'd wonder if a separate monitor would have a USB connection for the use by the camera like a touchscreen type does.

HP also has one, but $289.
ASUS has a couple listed, but no price.
