Dell Monitor won't stay tilted back

I have a Dell U2412M that won't stay tilted back. I've looked it over pretty well, and looked at the User's Guide. I did see some disassembly literature somewhere but don't know where now. I wonder if there is any internal adjustment that can be done to make the spring tighter? Or, if I could get inside I may be able to repair it by putting a little silicone spray on all the moving parts, as it may just be sticky and dry in there.

Now I see that it is running hot also, is 70C hot for a monitor? Speccy says it is. I see now 40 °C is the limit! Is there a way to fix a hot running monitor and is it dangerous to run it like that?

If needed, what monitor should I get? It's a Inspiron 3847

    Thanks, FM

Looking at the manual the stand snaps in and If you're careful you should be able to unsnap it buy going in reverse order of installing it. Do not force it, If you can get it off there may be some screws you can tighten. I have no Idea what the temp should be.

Edit: I scrolled further down and the manual shows how to remove the stand. There is a release button.

Either the springs are shot, needs lube or needs adjustment to the spring. I tried to take it apart but it looks like a nightmare. No exposed screws to tighten.

40 °C is the limit so it is running hot at 70

I do have two computers connected but only run one at a time.

The only thing I see in SPECCY is my video card's temperature, no temp for my Dell monitor.
Post on the Dell monitor support forum HERE where those more familiar may be able to help.

Perhaps the Outline drawing or Setup guide have enough detail to give you some inspiration?

fireberd, I was looking under Summary, but I assume it is the same. I would assume that there is nothing written for your monitor in speccy, or it is being overseen by the gpu, I don't know? I was surprised to see mine and don't know if it is even correct. My DELL P2214H does not have Temp Sensor either, just looked.

Try3, I looked at that. There was a page I found that had the disassembly instructions but cannot find it anymore.

Okay, just learned something. The Temps are only showing when by DVI! Very interesting?

You might try searching in the Dell user forums but, according to a Dell moderator in this forum thread, Dell does not produce any service documentation for monitors [it treats whole monitors as replaceable units].

    Best of luck,

I can live with it for now, will try to get some silicone spray in there and see if that helps. I also have multiple cables hanging from it but this still happens with only one.

    FM,

And I've just noticed that I missed part of your question, "If needed, what monitor should I get?".

There's a wide field. I think you are only constrained by your available display connections.

I bought a Hanns.G HT225HPB 21.5 LED Multi-Touch Screen Monitor from Amazon [UK] in 2018. It was cheap compared to many others & is still going strong.
    - I use it with my Dell inspiron 1545 most of the time and it copes with touch capabilities well even though that laptop does not have the recommended USB3 connections. I also use it with my Dell Inspiron 7779. And I sometimes use it with my Chuwi Hi10 Pro tablet-with-keyboard.
    - It was a whole new lease of life for my ten year old 1545. I was thinking of retiring it in favour of a modern one with a larger screen but this monitor makes it able to do all the jobs I require of it. So that's £1000 saved for a few years.
    - It can use a VGA or HDMI input. It also has a USB input and a sound input.
    - HDMI carries both sound & vision. To get sound when using VGA, you have to run a separate sound cable from the computer.
    - Both need a separate USB connection for touch.
    - It can sit on the desk or, because it has standard VESA screw fittings, I was able to mount it on one of those big swing arms so I have the benfit of having it available without it cluttering up my desk.
    - Its VGA connection is to my 1545. An HDMI cable is always connected but is not normally used. When I want to use it with the 7779, I just plug that HDMI cable into the 7779 without having to reach around the back of the monitor at all. The monitor will take its audio & video orders from whichever computer is set to use an external display and will feed back touch signals to whichever one the USB cable is connected to].

    Best of luck,
    Denis
