I don't have any Icons on my desktop, another different strokes for different folks. I get why people do it, I just choose not to. Programs I use every day are pinned to my taskbar. Others that I use regularly are pined to my Start Screen.

I can remember having my desktop Icons shuffled around on occasion, way back when I used XP. I don't remember them ever being splattered across two monitors though. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, I just never saw it happen myself.

No, dude, it definitely happens..., EVERYDAY! I am not used to it either. I've been all over the "net" trying to find a solution, but to no avail.

Someone said that it could be a resolution issue. Toggled the resolution with no results.

I don't know what to tell you? I don't have a solution. Are you switching modes, like from Extend to PC Only?

Thanks bruh. I'll just keep working at it, and if I find a resolution, I'll post it.

    Thanks again.

I think I posted this before, I might be barking up the wrong tree for what you're after though.

I swapped cables in back, port for port,

dragged the array to what I wanted and made 1 'My Main Display':

I have same issue, and it trips my OCD every now and then and in 5+ years I never been able to fiqure out fix for this. i spent 8 hours trying to fiqure this out today but I and gave up again

As soon as my HDTV-Hdmi is connected my Dvi-Monitor that was identified as 1 is now identified as 2 and HDTV-Hdmi becomes identity 1

This a a result make win key + p act as followed

IF Dvi monitor is only connected
Dvi Moniotor = PC screen only

IF Dvi monitor and HDTV-Hdmi is connect
Dvi Monitor = Second screen only
    HDTV-Hdmi = PC screen only

This either windows issue or driver(nvidia) issue but i never uninstalled nvidia drivers and plug both monitors in 1 at time to see if same thing happens. it is also possible this behavior is coded in to the FW for gpu's

Well, it's not coded into the firmware. I have done a number of these multi-display installations, and only have this issue on a very few. But where it exists, it does seem to be hard coded into the system. NOTHING makes a difference. HDMI always comes up "1". I've just let it go. I follow the stupid system. I hate it, but I just march along!
