    Okay.... likely "Drive Guard" then.

So I asked early, how did this problem manifest itself.

Did you do a clean install, a reset, or maybe a feature update.

Certainly there are some devices out there that have real difficulties running 10. That said all my HP devices, even ones from 13 years ago run win 10.

I'll bet a huge percentage of the gear out there is not supported on Windows 10.

If I could I ask further, so you did an upgrade from W8 to W10 ? Where I was going, would a clean install reset glitch and install it correctly?

I wonder if you run the driver install in compatibility mode.

Original specs for HP ENVY 17-3080ez
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64
Video Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 7690M XT (1 GB DDR5 dedicated)
An intel HD graphics driver isn't included

So then I think it would be safe to get the lastest driver for the 7690m XT directly from AMD. They have one listed for Win 10 in both bit flavours.

And yet, the laptop may not have a 7960M. Post 1 shows a 6700M. A little Web searching suggests that may be true.

As regards drivers, I expect that any PC that can run Windows 8.1 X64 can run Windows 10 X64. (There was actually a break for X64 between Win 8 and Win 8.1. Involves some obscure CPU instructions. Microsoft doesn't make that information easy to find.)

None of the drivers from AMD worked.I mean they worked until I rebooted and restarted the laptop. Then I got the message on first picture.
    7690 XT is rebranded 6800M.
Under Win 7 I see 2 display adapters and one of them is mentioned above which is from Intel.
