Attached are three files which show what I am seeing - some sort f overlay or distortion. This began a few days ago - and cleared up for about a day - then reverted to what you see. I've tried uninstalling the monitor, scan for changes and updated the driver (which didn't need updating). I've also tried a new HDMI cable. No luck! Any suggestions? Could a recent Windows update have caused this?
Its more like a loose connection or bent pin or even wrong resolution very unlikely its an update reseat all video connections
Please note that I have tried a new HDMI cable. Also, the old cable has never been touched - so I don't see how it could be a bent pin (although the connection is what I would have thought too). That's what it looks like to an old TV repairman. Must be something else. Also, just checked the resolution and it's fine.
do you have another connection on laptop besides hdmi like vga or display port that has same on monitor or use with an adapter? could try that if that works
I'll have to look. If I do, I would probably need to purchase an adapter.
Based on the image that issue is actually more indicative of a failing GPU (Possibly an overheat issue). My suggestion is to try a different monitor or move said monitor to another PC. If the monitor works on a different PC it's most likely the GPU. Seen that one too many times.
Search for GPU overheating and look at some images and you'll see similar issues.
Is the laptop screen fine or both external monitor and laptop screen messed up?
The laptop screen is fine (thank goodness). The monitor is the only one that's bad.
Then I would think it is a connection issue. Can you test monitor and HDMI cable on another device?
I don't have another device to try it on. I also think it's a connection problem. Any other way to test it?
