NVIDIA driver not compatible with this version of Windows

    Hi,
    I have a HP LAPTOP on 64bit Windows 10, version 1809 (Build 17763.1039).
with nVidia card GeForce 820M.I try to install the last nVidia driver 425.31 64bit version by:

    1) Downloaded and ran DDU in safe mode as per instructions
    2) Re-started, and, but now installer stops with this message:
    nvidia installer cannot continue
other installations are running. Finish the other installations then try again.
This Standard NVIDIA graphics driver is not compatible with this version of Windows.
This NVIDIA graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware.

    pl advise. thanks

Please head to the Nvidia web site and get the last driver they offer for your gear.

Then run ddu again and install the driver you downloaded from their site.

It is possible that HP uses a custom device ID for the nVidia 820M in the laptop. In that case, the generic installer may not work.

What's the model number? "HP 15" isn't sufficient.

    Thanks.

The latest drivers that HP lists (https://support.hp.com/sg-en/drivers.../model/7606594) are two years old.

I believe that model uses the nVidia "Optimus" scheme: use the Intel onboard graphics for low-performance (and low-power) purposes, and switch to the nVidia graphics controller for more intensive stuff.

One thing to try: download and install the latest Intel graphics drivers first (Downloads for Intel(R) HD Graphics 5500). If that works, then try the latest nVidia drvers again.

I have never owned an Optimus laptop, so I can't write from experience. As far as I know, there are no special nVidia drivers for that. The function is included in the standard drivers. Any corrections will be cheerfully accepted.

Did you go to nvidia to see what the latest driver is that your hardware supports?

I'm not "spyslayer", but nVidia offers 425.31 for the 820M.

Thanks for doing the digging bobkn.

Since he is on 1809 build maybe a driver from that era might work better.

    Thoughts?
